Position overview

The Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics (RSAA) has a long history of research and technical activity at the forefront of astronomy and astrophysics. RSAA builds advanced astronomical instruments for its own telescopes and for other telescopes around the world, including the 25-metre Giant Magellan Telescope in which ANU is a partner. RSAA is also engaged in developing technologies for tracking and manipulating space junk through the Collaborative Research Centre for Space Environment Management, and in the design and construction of instrumentation for astronomical and other purposes.

The Project and System Engineer will work closely with the Scientific leads, the Project leads and the engineering disciplines to capture, communicate, monitor and validate technical requirements. The position therefore requires a highly self-motivated individual who can successfully capture requirements and play a key role in assembly, integration and testing of project deliverables.

Engineering at the RSAA requires working with state-of-the-art technologies and pushing them to their limits.  In most cases, it requires achieving requirements that have not previously been achieved anywhere in the world.  The Project Engineer will play a key role in ensuring a success to these projects.

ANU offers a competitive remuneration and benefits package, a friendly and collaborative work environment, generous leave entitlements, flexible working arrangements, generous superannuation and salary packaging arrangements including child care.
