The School of Engineering & Applied Science at Washington University is seeking applicants for the position of Program Director, Cybersecurity Engineering program (CYSE). The School is investing significant resources to build a world-class teaching infrastructure to support the program and to capitalize on corporate and government engagement.   The Program Director will take the lead role in building, integrating, and growing the program to meet the ever-increasing demand for highly skilled, technically-adroit engineers to meet the cybersecurity threats facing organizations and individuals

The Program Director will take an active role in ongoing program strategy and development.  This includes curriculum and course development, faculty recruitment, student enrollment, and teaching.  The Program Director will develop new academic offerings including the Master of Science in Cybersecurity Engineering, certificates, short courses, and credentials designed to provide graduates the acumen to design, engineer, and assess cybersecurity software, applications, and technology.

The Program Director will have a key role in interdisciplinary outreach and external engagement with corporate and government stakeholders to foster the growth of the St. Louis region as a hub for cybersecurity research and technological advancement.   These initiatives include involvement in a growing cybersecurity start-up ecosystem, the creation of a cybersecurity laboratory for training and hands-on instruction, and formation of a regional consortium to facilitate communication among universities, commercial firms, government entities, and community organizations on the challenges and opportunities surrounding cybersecurity. 

The School of Engineering & Applied Science (SEAS) is ranked among US News & World Report's top 50 Engineering Schools, and focuses intellectual efforts on medicine and health, energy and environment, entrepreneurship and security. The school's Department of Computer Science and Engineering conducts high-impact research and trains future researchers, engineers and educators.  The department employs twenty-six tenured/tenure-track faculty, ten of whom have earned NSF Career Awards.

Qualified candidates will have earned a Doctorate in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related discipline.  A Master’s degree in these fields may be considered if professional experience and track record demonstrates expertise and excellence that support the Director’s required duties.  Key attributes of the successful candidate include a track record of performance in industry or government in the cybersecurity field, ability and commitment to achieving strategic and/or entrepreneurial outcomes, strong leadership skills necessary to build cooperative relationships, the ability to positively influence the performance of interdisciplinary teams and to work effectively with diverse constituencies, and excellence in written and oral communication.
