The Global 30 International Program of Nagoya University Automotive Engineering Program seeks to fill a full-time, non-tenure-track position at the level of Associate Professor or Professor. The successful candidate will work in the Graduate School of Engineering. She/He will teach no more than 8 courses per year (8 ‘komas’ per year*) including possible evening and weekend courses. As a full-time faculty, she/he will be expected to hold office hours, provide academic advising for students and perform the normal duties associated with teaching.  (*In Japan one course or ‘koma’ is equivalent to one 90 minute lecture per week for 15 weeks)

 

Possible courses that the successful candidate will be expected to teach:

l  Fluid Dynamics

l  Thermodynamics

l  Heat Transfer Engineering

 

Required Qualifications

1)       Research and development experience in automobile industry

2)       Teaching experiencein automotive engineering or a related field

3)       Demonstrated ability to teach students at both undergraduate and graduate levels

4)       Willingness to participate widely in the International Programs of the university including but not limited to teaching courses to Japanese students and some administrative duties

5)       Strong inter-personal skills and evidence of effective interaction with students, faculty, administration, and the local community

6)       English fluency sufficient to effectively teach the above mentioned courses

 

Preferred Qualifications

1)       Candidates with a doctoral degree in automotive engineering or a related field will be given preference 

2)       Candidates who are not Japanese citizens will be given preference

3)       Experience working in a multicultural environment preferred

4)       Japanese language proficiency is welcomed though not required

 

Nagoya University seeks individuals with demonstrated excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level, with an interest in teaching introductory courses to international students from all over the world in Japan.

The initial contract will start April 1, 2018, and terminate March 31, 2021.

Contingent upon job performance and funding of the Global 30 International Program, the contract may be renewable for an additional 3-year term.

 

Salary: JPY4,000,000-10,000,000/year (all inclusive)

Salary will depend on qualifications and experience, based on Nagoya University’s Salary Rules for Employees to whom the Annual Salary System applies. *Taxes and insurances will be withheld from the annual salary. 

 

Holding of concurrent positions and/or jobs: As a general rule Nagoya University does not permit full-time faculty working in the Global 30 International Programs to hold additional positions and/or jobs with other institutions.

5)       One page statement of teaching philosophy, addressing the applicant’s ability to integrate creative thinking and global perspectives into the courses taught

6)       Evidence of teaching excellence, such as any of the following items:

a)       Copies of past course syllabi—from at least two different courses—prepared and used by the applicant illustrating his/her teaching philosophy

b)       DVD of the applicant’s teaching

c)       Student evaluation forms and summaries from at least two different courses

d)       Student letters

e)       Public commendations, prizes, and other awards for teaching excellence

7)       List of all publications and copies of up to five (if applicable)

8)       Current areas of research (if applicable)
