At the Technical Faculty of IT and Design, Department of Electronic Systems, a part-time (20%) position as Professor in Audio Perception is open for appointment from September 1, 2018 or soon hereafter. The applicant must bridge the gap between research and industry. The position therefore involves a 20% employment at the university, and the applicant is expected to have his/her main occupation in the private sector. The Department of Electronic Systems is one of the largest departments at Aalborg University with a total of more than 250 employees. The department is internationally recognized in particular for its contributions within Information and Communication Technology (ICT). The research and teaching of the Department of Electronic Systems focus on electronic engineering and the activity areas are organized in the sections: Antennas, Propagation and Millimetre-wave Systems section (APMS), Automation Control section (Control), Connectivity section (CNT), Signal and Information Processing section (SIP), Wireless Communication Networks section (WCN) and Communication, Media and Information technologies (CMI). The department focuses on maintaining a close interplay with the university’s surroundings - locally, nationally and internationally – as well as producing unique basic research and educating talented and creative engineers. The department collaborates with leading ICT researchers all over the world.
Job description

The Signal and Information Processing section seeks to appoint an Professor who should guide and further develop the section’s research activities related to audio perception. The applicant is expected to have research qualifications at the doctoral level within psychoacoustic and perception.

In particular, the position requires internationally recognized research experience in the following engineering domains;

  • Advanced psychoacoustics
  • Perceptual models for reproduced sound in rooms
  • Perception-analysis and -assessment of reproduced sound in small and medium sized rooms
  • Sensory analysis of sound and visual impressions
  • Methods for statistical analysis of sensory data
  • Training and monitoring of subjects for sensory analysis of sound.

The position requires experience and involvement in management of large research projects with many contributing academic and industrial partners, supervision of PhD students and post-docs, as well as maintenance of and cooperation in national and international academic networks, including standardization bodies, innovation networks etc. The Professor is expected to conduct dissemination of research results to and initiate cooperation with industry in order to strengthen the University’s relations with local, national, and international private companies.

Furthermore, the position involves preparation of research funding applications, and to some extent also teaching and assessment, primarily of graduate students. The teaching will be in domains such as multimedia information, acoustics and signal processing, but may also be in other study programs at the University. Besides, it is expected that the Professor participates in promoting the interests of the University in national research- and education policy making councils and boards.

Qualification requirements: The successful applicant can demonstrate a documented high level of original scientific production at an international level, including proven further development of the research area in question. An assessment of the candidate’s undertaking of research management and/or other possible management functions will also be taken into account. In addition the applicant is expected to have the qualifications required for undertaking teaching responsibilities. Special contributions to and development of educational and teaching related areas will be considered in the overall assessment.

Appointment and salary acc. to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of professional Associations (AC) on Academics in the State. Employment as Professor is in accordance with a classified position on scale 37. In addition, a pensionable increment will be given.
