What You Will Be Doing:

The Power Systems Engineering Specialist works on complex engineering assignments, and provides expertise on studies, integrates, enhances and supports advanced applications. Acts as project coordinator in the design, engineering and testing of market software. Anticipates, identifies and resolves engineering-related problems or potential problems within assigned areas, and may propose solutions to such issues. Coordinates software changes with other internal departments and outside vendors. Provides technical expertise and business rule support to other departments and external entities relating to electricity market operations.

-Maintain the current applications analyzing system errors contemporaneously from all angles of expertise to fix and determine the root cause application problem. Provides 24X7 support to Real Time Operations, including all market functions.

-Focus on recovery of systems promptly and problem resolution analysis to identify and analyze alternative approaches to satisfy defined functional requirements and determine the most efficient and cost-effective solution to implement.

-Work with our IT staff, grid operation and others to ensure systems architecture meets business needs of today and the future.

-Integrate, enhance, improve, test, and support Day-Ahead Market (DAM), Real-Time Market(RTM), Market Quality Services (MQS) applications as well as other advanced applications related to operations.

-Contribute to design considerations and implementation of advance power technologies to fully utilize the market operations and reliability of the grid through the use of power system technologies.

-Ensure complete and accurate documentation of implementations for new applications or modifications.

-Perform all functional testing of existing applications and new features to ensure error free implementation and maximize effectiveness.

Requirements

What We're Looking For: 

Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with Power System emphasis. Master's degree highly preferred.

Experience: Ideal candidate will have 2 or more years of professional experience in any combination of the following:


-Power Systems Engineering knowledge and experience

-Electric utility industry, preferably in Grid Operations or market design

-Software application and tools that support grid operations and market operations

-Project management of applications development and implementation

-Programming concepts

-Knowledge of economics and computer science is essential in performing this job. 

-Designing and implementation of Energy Management Systems (EMS) advance network applications, or optimization applications desired. 

-Advanced power system operations and principles, California power transmission networks and structure desired

One or a combination of the following is required: EMS, advanced network applications, CIMXML, real-time systems, market operations or design, web services, Oracle, SQL.
