Description: Summary of Description:  

GTRI is seeking a highly motivated hardware engineer with the ability to design, develop and support power systems on commercial and/or military airborne platforms.  The candidate join a mid-sized team of hardware, software and system engineers executing ongoing sponsored programs developing products for commercial and/or military systems.  Initial tasking will be power-supply related, but the successful candidate will have opportunities for future exposure to other analog, RF, and/or digital hardware projects as well.

Basic Responsibilities 

  • Power Supply design, development and test
  • Hardware engineering

Core competencies for this position:  

  • Knowledge and experience in switching power supply design, development and test for:
    • AC/DC converters
    • DC/DC converters
    • Up to 100 Watt power range
    • Up to 28VDC output voltage range
  • Works well individually or in a group setting
  • Ability to effectively work under pressure and time constraints
  • Ability to self-motivate and derive specific requirements from general tasking descriptions 
  • Ability to assimilate and apply new job-related information in a timely manner

Research Engineer I

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering

Research Engineer II

  • A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree

Experience Requirement

  • >10 years power supply design experience
  • Excellent analog design skills including op-amp proficiency
  • Problem solving and root cause analysis skills
  • Led design of at least one widely-fielded power supply system
  • US Citizenship
  • DoD Secret clearance or ability to obtain a clearance within six months after your employment with Georgia Tech Research Institute begins is required

Preferred Skills/Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Airborne commercial and military power supply development experience
  • Experience in designing to harsh environmental and EMI requirements (MIL-STD-461/810, etc.)
  • Digital design proficiency
  • Existing DoD Secret clearance
  • DoD contract work experience
