Postdoctoral researcher PV Module Accelerated Lifetime Testing and Modeling Job Req #R1856 Job Summary The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), located in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in Golden, Colorado, is the nation's primary laboratory for research, development and deployment of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies. We are announcing an opening for a Postdoctoral Researcher in the PV Performance and Reliability area. The appointment is for up to three years. Actual time will depend on projects and budgets. The focus of Performance and Reliability Research and Development (R&D) at NREL is to improve photovoltaic (PV) technologies. We test and model systems, modules and materials for performance, stress them both in the field and in the laboratory, and find solutions to improve PV reliability. This postdoctoral position is for work conducting innovative research on Photovoltaic modules and materials testing. The main project intended for this hire is the development and application of combined stress factor weathering tests (e.g., ASTM 7869) and performing the associated modeling for analyzing module degradation. This will likely include the study of thermomechanical fatigue, oxidative, hydrolytic, and electrolytic degradation processes in various materials. All PV technologies may be considered (III-V, crystalline Si, thin-film, etc.). Expectations include: planning, realization, analysis and interpretation of scientific experiments. The successful candidate will have a deep fundamental knowledge of the structure/mechanics and electrical behavior of materials and devices and hands-on laboratory experience in electrical and mechanical testing. Publication of results in scientific journals and conference proceedings and presentation of work at scientific conferences and program review meetings is expected. Requirements

Required Education, Experience, and Skills Must be a recent PhD graduate within the last three years. Preferred Qualifications A recent Ph.D. (less than 3 years), in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Physics. Excellent instrumentation, experimentation, software (e.g. LabVIEW), materials science, and analytical skills or knowledge are required. Demonstrated self-motivation in the candidate's work will additionally be sought. Please specify how your experience fits these requirements in your application. Strong scientific writing skills demonstrated by experience in writing quality scientific papers; proven communications skills and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a research team are also required.
