The immediately hired postdoctoral researcher will work experimentally for high  frequency  electrode for our novel ultra-high speed electro-optic (EO) polymer modulators under the supervision of Prof Yasufumi Enami.  

Responsibility will include the design, fabrication, and demonstration of mili-wave microsrip line (RF electrodes) for our novel EO polymer modulators.  We aim 200 GHz bandwidth of our polymer modulators.  High frequency Au electrode is fabricated for polymer modulators, and the bandwidth of RF transmission S21 parameter is measured using vector network analyzer.  The eye diagram of EO modulator is also measured at the high frequency of >110 GHz. 

Responsibilities will also include process of 1)electro-optic polymer and sol-gel silica waveguides using mask aligner and RIE, 2)observation of the devices and thin films using XRD, SEM and AFM, TEM, 3)optical throughput measurement of the waveguide devices, and 4) EO coefficient measurement for the poled EO polymers and Vpi measurements for the EO polymer modulators.


Skill for S parameter measurement using milliwave network analyzer and fabrication of Au -plated RF-electrode.  Photomask design,  RIE, ICP, Asher, RF sputtering, and dicing machine are plus, but not necessary.

Software skill: required for HFSS, not required, but preferred for the knowledge of AutoCad.  Skill of Rsoft or Optiwave(Beamprop. FDTD), Mathematica etc is plus.  

Candidate should have strong background in experimental work for High Frequency Electrode.

Electrical Engineering, Optics, Photonics, or Applied Physics. Ph.D. obtained in US or Europe is highly evaluated. Japanese researcher is also accepted.

Self-motivated worker and hard worker is highly preferred. Candidate should have a track record of writing papers and should have knowledge of preparing and submitting oral and written presentations at conferences.

This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding. Salary depends on candidate’s experience and research record which is reasonable for living in Japan.

Researcher mainly works in my lab and travels to my collaborator's lab. Japanese language skill is not required. In this case, communication in English may be needed with other Japanese.

Additional Salary Information: The monthly payment for one-bed room apartment is 400US$. The living cost is much lower than averaged one in Japan,
