The successful Portfolio Director (PD) candidate will oversee elements of MITRE's strategic engagement with the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) and Communications and related offices, accountable to the Vice President and Director, CVET.  

 

 

 

The PD will develop close working relationships with senior leaders and the VA sponsors across the relevant sponsor and market environment, with the goal of becoming a trusted adviser for the leadership on major initiatives, technical challenges, and priorities.

 

 

 

The PD is also accountable for developing, shaping and reshaping, and executing a successful work program that supports the Sponsors' objectives and achieves key mission outcomes. PDs work closely, in a shared leadership model, with other Portfolio Directors/Department Heads/Project/Task Leaders in shaping the current work program to maximize impact and value and to identify, shape, and capture new work opportunities. Strong focus will be placed on encouraging sponsors to lean toward emerging risks and working across MITRE to cross-pollinate.

 

To achieve this, the PD will collaborate closely with other MITRE staff to bridge across the operational and research communities so as to increase the relevance and impact of VA initiatives for the future of the VA.

 

In addition, the PD will collaborate with leadership from other Sponsor Portfolios, Cross-Cutting Portfolios, Program Divisions and Technical Centers to ensure that MITREs strategy for the organizations within MPS is integrated with related strategies within the rest of the MITRE Corporation.

 

 

 

Key responsibilities include:

 

 

 

Sponsor engagement and managing sponsor relationships (new and existing) with individualized attention, with the goal of serving as a trusted advisor and a bridge to all of MITREs capacity
Solid understanding of the VA, healthcare related to the VA, and trends, key players, and political dynamics
Grasp and press forward the major technical initiatives, broadening/constraining/shaping as appropriate, that MITRE is producing and could produce to benefit the VA
Work closely in a whole-team way with other PfMs within CVET throughout the entire lifecycle of projects and programs, in a shared leadership model
Develop and execute a portfolio business strategy identifying, cultivating and capitalizing on strategic opportunities, to include partnering with other portfolios
Continue to develop and advance sponsor outcomes, developing clear metrics to chart measurable progress
Shape the work program to maximize value and impact and maintain a strong technical focus
Secure funding and understand business status across the projects in the portfolio
Collaborate with the CVET Program Division and Department Leadership as they execute the work program and ensure technical quality
Collaborate with other Portfolios, Program Divisions and Tech Centers to identify and capitalize on opportunities to increase our collective value and impact for our sponsors
Provide understanding of the sponsors, our MITRE work efforts, and the Political, Operational, Economic and Technical (POET) environment and problem spaces to the MITRE leadership, business partners and MIP Innovation Leads
Aggressively look for new and innovative solutions to meet the sponsors most critical needs taking full advantage of the MITRE Innovation Program












Applicable Bachelor's degree and 10 + years experience working with the VA and/or healthcare related industries 


 


Capabilities and experience will include:


Strong understanding of the healthcare industry and how this relates to the VA


 



Proven experience with bringing the corporation to bear


Ability to relinquish control and work as part of a shared leadership team
