Job Details

The successful candidate will be deployed to the Orion Spacecraft program working as an ordnance engineer located at Kennedy Space Center (KSC) in Florida. Job duties include responsibility for the design, manufacture, procurement and test for the initiation system, separation, and mechanism ordnance components and assemblies as a Pyrotechnic Subsystem Certified Principle Engineer (CPE)/Delegate for the spacecraft. The job requires coordinating and collaborating with customers, ordnance suppliers, test facilities, and other related disciplines including ATLO, manufacturing, subcontracts, quality, structure design, analysis, systems engineering, and integration with affected subsystems and facilities. Other duties may include,
-Perform as a Ordnance Liaison and on site pyrotechnics CPE for vehicle integration efforts
-Assist on the conceptual development, requirements definition and derivation, and design of ordnance components and mission specific ordnance architecture
-Perform trade studies to select the appropriate design solution
-Develop product performance specifications, statements of work, and supplier data requirements for ordnance components
-Maintain and review engineering drawings, specifications, and technical analyses necessary to support and/or integrate ordnance components
-Coordinate requirements flow-down, verification, and maintain technical baselines at the ordnance suppliers
-Evaluate, help, select, and then manage the technical aspects of the procurement life cycle from the selected ordnance supplier
-Travel to ordnance suppliers, test facilities, as well as NASA and Lockheed Martin facility locations as required to perform job description
-Certification of each constituent ordnance device and/or assembly and the entire pyrotechnic subsystem for manned spaceflight

Basic Qualifications
The successful candidate must be well organized, team oriented, and meet the following,
-BS in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related discipline
-Minimum of 9 years of experience in design, development, and manufacture of ordnance components and assemblies or related hardware
-Experience in subcontract/project management of sub-tier suppliers, including preparation of requirements documents and statements of work
-Familiarity with industry standards for design and testing of ordnance devices
-Ability to conduct failure investigations and determine root cause of manufacturing and test anomalies, prepare formal written reports, and present results to management and customers
-Strong communication skills and the ability to reach solutions acceptable to a multi-discipline technical and managerial work team

Desired skills
It is highly desirable to have experience in the following:
-Positive interaction with personnel from various engineering support disciplines (e.g., soft skills) for issue/conflict resolution
-Preparation and evaluation of ordnance suppliers & test facilities proposals
-Materials and process for manufacture for ordnance devices
-Design, development, production, qualification and acceptance testing and integration of ordnance devices
-Familiarity with ordnance safety requirements, including handling and range safety
-System level testing of ordnance systems including related electronic ground support equipment (EGSE), mechanical ground support equipment (MGSE), as well as interfaces with avionics, power, wiring/harnessing, and EMI/EMC interaction
-Familiarity with National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) contracts, specifications, regulations, procedures, and policies is a plus
