Are you interested in emerging technologies that will fundamentally change the way enterprise networks function and are secured? If so, MITRE's Networking and Infrastructure Technical Center is currently looking for a Network Technology and Security Engineer to explore these and other challenging questions as we work to make our nation safer. The key roles of Network Technology and Security engineer are:




- Provide network security engineering support to a variety of sponsor and research based projects including design, development, integration, and implementation activities in support of network systems and security.
- Solve complex networking and security problems in areas spanning enterprise IT networks, data center infrastructure, critical infrastructure, network operations, network security capabilities, and more.
- Interact with MITRE and sponsor teams to present technical solutions and make recommendations on the preferred way forward.


As an engineer in the Networking and Infrastructure Technology Center, you might expect to:




- Conduct hands-on lab analysis to solve technical issues, consider potential integration opportunities, and understand performance/scalability issues.
- Work closely with industry to understand best practices and maintain a pulse of innovations in the networking and network security area.
- Perform hands-on assessments of capabilities in the networking and network security market to determine how these capabilities may work with existing sponsor infrastructure.
- Develop written products and technical reports that highlight findings and recommendations.
- Develop prototypes that demonstrate novel solutions to sponsor problems.


 














Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelors Degree in one of the following disciplines, Electrical, Computer or Systems Engineering. The candidate will possess demonstrated ability to provide deliverables or parts of deliverables to customers.




Required Skills:




- A passion to learn and work on challenging problems


- Strong interest in networks, network security, and related technologies


- Understanding of networks and fundamental layer 3 and 4 protocols (e.g. IP, TCP, UDP, etc.)


- Experience in programming methods/languages such as Shell Scripting, Perl, Python, Ruby, C/C++, Java


- Understanding of network protocols such as Domain Name Service (DNS), Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), IP Routing (OSPF, EIGRP, BGP)


- Knowledge of common security capabilities such as firewalls, intrusion prevention systems, and full packet capture


- Exposure to IoT, industrial control system, and embedded networking protocols is a plus


- Excellent analytical and problem solving skills


- Strong written and verbal communications skills
