Highlights:

MITRE is in search of a systems engineer to assist the
US Air Force Program Office with the development and application of software
tools to support navigation database validation/verification.  This
includes tools that will enable inter-lab connectivity between MITRE Bedford
and MITRE McLean research facilities, as well as developing software modules
necessary to interface with military aircraft flight management system
software. This opening is for a senior system engineer (Level 3) with prior
government engineering experience in electrical and/or software engineering who
can assist the program office with the application of requirements for
navigation data use for Area Navigation (RNAV) and Required Navigation
Performance (RNP).  Knowledge of the applicable civil standards and
National Geo-Spatial Intelligences (NGA) Digital Aeronautical Flight
Information File (DAFIF) is desired.  The successful candidate will be
able to apply systems engineering and software expertise to ensure DAFIF
remains a viable and valid database for the governments use in
performance-based navigation.


Key Functions:

  • Provide subject matter expertise in navigation and
    navigation data
  • Apply sound systems engineering and software
    engineering skills to the assessment and validation of DAFIF data
  • Develop and document analysis techniques and tools
    to support the verification/validation of key navigation data and databases
  • Engage with Air Force and Government engineering and
    program management staff to explain the analysis and tools developed to support
    this effort
  • Present results and findings to customer and
    professional groups
  • Work with FAA and AF sponsors to address issues
    and/or challenges with navigation data and/or application to RNAV and RNP













Required Qualifications:

  • The
    successful candidate will have Expertise in navigation database processes,
    tools and applications to include object-oriented software architecture,
    component-based software architecture, XML, C++, flight management system
    interfaces, and aviation data assurance processes.
  • Aircraft navigation
    systems architecture and performance based navigation standards
    knowledge.  
  • Good organization, writing and briefing skills are
    critical.  
  • Ability to lead small teams of engineers in review of aircraft
    avionics architectures and performance.
Preferred Qualifications"

  • Additionally, desired qualifications include database design and development
    experience in DoD database formats. 
  • Knowledge of Department of Defense
    mission planning tools and processes. 
  •  Experience in application of ARINC
    424 data formats.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • BS
    and 3 years of related experience
