Job Description:

The Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) has opportunities for Model Based Systems Engineer research positions within the Sensor and Electromagnetic Application Laboratory (SEAL) in Smyrna, Georgia. The mission of SEAL’s Model Based Systems Engineering Group is to perform analysis, architecture development and design and engineering functions for complex systems, which includes sensor performance, signal processing, electronic warning, and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) systems deployed on land, air and sea. The Model Based Systems Engineering team has responsibilities for:

  • Generation of functional requirements;
  • Requirements traceability;
  • Integrated architecture design;
  • Sensor and architecture modeling;
  • Interface definition across subsystems/components and other external systems;
  • Systems trade study analysis;
  • Algorithm definition and development;
  • Modeling and Simulation (M&S) of sensors and systems; and,
  • System performance prediction.

The successful candidate will have real world experience and training directly related to implementing Model Based Systems Engineering solutions on complex, DoD programs.  The candidate will be involved in a team environment consisting of GTRI, Government, and Industry partners. This position also requires excellent communication skills in order to convey analysis, design and trade spaces to the customer and users, and to assist in the description of required current and future capabilities. The candidate will be required to write technical papers to assist the project in the need for new research and capabilities.

Requirements

Required Skills:

  • Good problem solving ability;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Experience with Requirements development and management;
  • Experience with Interface definition across multiple subsystems;
  • Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering with the OMG Systems Modeling Language (SysML);
  • Experience with the Department of Defense Architecture Framework (DoDAF);
  • Experience with Enterprise Architecture Tools (Commercial or open-source); and,
  • Experience with development of an integrated system model (SysML and DoDAF Diagrams).

 

Desired Skills:

  • Ability to perform trade studies to optimize system performance;
  • Existing Secret or TS/SCI clearance, or the ability to obtain an interim clearance within 30 days and full clearance thereafter
  • Experience with DoD Intelligence communities
  • Experience with the DoD Acquisition Process
  • Expertise using Cameo System Modeler and associated plugins from No Magic, Inc.
  • OMG-Certified Systems Modeling Professional™ (OCSMP™) Certification (any level)
  • INCOSE ASEP or CSEP (Associate or Certified Systems Engineering Professional) Certification

 

Education:

 

Research Engineer II (REII) & Research Scientist II (RSII)

  • A Master’s degree and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree
  • A Doctoral degree.

 

Experience:  

  • Experience in various phases of Model Based Systems Engineering lifecycle including:
    • Architecture development for complex DoD programs that involve hardware, software, communications and networking (via DoDAF and/or SysML)
    • Model Based Systems Engineering methodology and toolsets

Other: Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens, with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance.
