This opportunity is with our Cyber Technology and Information Security Lab (CIPHER). CIPHER conducts applied research focused on cyber threats and countermeasures, secure multi-level information sharing, resilient command and control network architectures, reverse engineering, vulnerability identification, and high performance computing and analytics. CIPHER engineers develop and apply cutting edge technologies in computing, network architectures, signal and protocol analysis, network forensics, malware analysis, and reverse engineering (hardware and software) to solve the tough problems.  To learn more about CIPHER, please visit


Full lifecycle systems deployment plus networking, security, hardware, scripting and programming. This position is responsible for design, deployment, management and administration of the CIPHER Microsoft infrastructure. The individual will work with other engineers to meet the goals and objectives of various projects throughout the Lab.  Administration emphasis is centered around using a provisioning and configuration management strategy to efficiently administer the lab’s infrastructure.  The position will also require knowledge in supporting highly available and redundant applications and services for our customers.

Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist/Associate I

  • A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology or related technical field. 


  • US Citizenship and the ability to obtain a security clearance
  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server configuration and administration.
  • Experience with Microsoft systems (Active Directory, Group Policy, RSAT, etc.)
  • Experience with networking and configuration management will be required.
  • Experience issuing and managing SSL certificates and certificate authorities required.
  • Experience developing solutions in a mixed OS environment required.
  • Experience managing and protecting multiple datacenters across several buildings
  • 20% travel required


  • Masters degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology or related technical field is preferred.
  • Configuration management (SCCM, Foreman, JAMF, etc.)
  • VMware ESXi management (vCenter, vCloud, etc.)
  • Atlassian administration (Jira, Bamboo, Bitbucket, Confluence)
  • Load balancers (Netscaler, F5)
  • Storage arrays (Netapp, etc.)
  • Datacenter administration (Hardware requisitioning, installation, configuration)
  • Business continuity planning and implementation (High availability, disaster recovery)
