Job Details

The thermal blanket lead design engineer will work with a cross-functional team of engineers, designers and subject matter experts across the country to develop mulit-layer insulation (MLI) systems for test and on-orbit performance of satellites. They will use computer-aided design applications to convert Thermal, EMI and Survivability requirements into drawings/models for fabrication/assembly and support spacecraft integration

This position will over-see design/development activities, troubleshooting/correcting anomalies and discrepant hardware, and design verification. Support critical program reviews such as SRR, PDR, CDR MRR. Drive Engineering process/tool improvements and deployments.

This exciting role is targeted for growth into Space Systems Company's Blanket Subject Matter Expert for LMSSC, responsible for driving advancement of virtual design processes, deployment of best practices, reducing blanket costs and ensuring excellent blanket design across multiple programs/platforms

Basic Qualifications
•Bachelors degree from an accredited college in a related discipline, or equivalent experience/combined education, with 9 years of professional experience; or 7 years of professional experience with a related Masters degree
•Proficient with CREO 3D modeling and 2D drafting including experience with installation drawings and modeling complex assemblies
•Demonstrated experience with Geometric Tolerancing and Design Documentation per ASME Y14.5
•Extensive flight hardware design, manufacturing, production and mechanical integration experience
•Demonstrated ability to interact with cross functional team members in establishing system requirements, Interface Control Documents (ICD’s) and final configurations
•Demonstrated experience interfacing with subcontractors and/or Customers
•Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills to interface with Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing Engineering, fabricators, mechanical vendors and non-technical audiences
•Hands-on hardware fabrication and assembly experience
•Previous spacecraft thermal blanket design, installation or fabrication experience
•Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance

Desired skills
'•Certified Product Engineer or equivalent with technical experience across Lockheed Martin Enterprise.
•MRB Certified or equivalent and experience driving HW procurement and production activities
•Proficiency with CREO sheet metal module
•Knowledge of CIPS, and proficient with EPDM, PMP, SAP and ERP
•Demonstrated experience driving process/tool improvements
•Knowledge of and demonstrated experience with ASME, ANSI, government and military standards and practices
•Experience resolving hardware failures, discrepancies and/or test anomalies (root-cause, disposition, corrective action, review boards…)
•Passion for developing/deploying process improvements and new technologies to improve product performance and reduce cost
•Current TS Security Clearance
