Job Details

The thermal blanket design engineer will work with the team and subject matter experts to develop multi-layer insulation (MLI) systems for test and on-orbit performance of satellites. They will use computer-aided design applications to convert Thermal, EMI and Survivability requirements into drawings/models for fabrication/assembly and have the opportunity to support spacecraft integration

This exciting role is targeted for growth into Space Systems Company's Blanket Subject Matter Expert for the Sunnyvale campus, responsible for driving advancement of virtual design processes, deployment of best practices, reducing blanket costs and ensuring excellent blanket design across multiple programs/platforms

Basic Qualifications
Bachelors degree from an accredited college in a related discipline, or equivalent experience/combined education, with 5 years of professional experience; or 3 years of professional experience with a related Masters degree.
Experience with mechanical concept development and design
Proficient with CREO 3D modeling and 2D drafting
Experience with the preparation of engineering documentation, including details, notes, and parts lists
Experience with derivation/interpretation/application of engineering design criteria, manufacturing processes, and contractual specifications
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a technical team environment
Knowledge of Mechanical Design principles including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills to Interface with Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing engineering, MLI fabricators, mechanical vendors and non-technical audiences
Hands-on hardware fabrication and assembly experience
Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance

Desired skills
Previous spacecraft thermal blanket design, installation or fabrication experience
Proficiency with CREO sheet metal module
Proficiency with SAP / EPDM (Enterprise Product Data Management) tool
Knowledge of and demonstrated experience with ASME, IPC, ANSI, government and military standards and practices
Experience resolving hardware failures, discrepancies and/or test anomalies (root-cause, disposition, corrective action, review boards…)
Passion for developing/deploying process improvements and new technologies to improve product performance and reduce cost
Current TS security clearance
