Mechanical Engineer

Job Summary

We have an immediate opening for a full-time Mechanical Engineer. This position designs mechanical systems that interface with pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical and controls systems. This position focuses on the development and implementation of mechanical systems and sub-systems for the company’s crash test systems. Direct reports may include Associate Engineers and Mechanical Designers. Collaborates within the Mechanical group and the Electrical group to conceptualize and design new crash test systems and refine existing designs. The Mechanical Engineer will use highly technical engineering skills to solve complex problems and implement robust designs.

The Seattle Safety ServoSled is the world’s premier vehicle crash simulator with a leading global market share. Our products help safety engineers improve safety and save lives. Seattle Safety crash testing systems are installed in automotive and aerospace facilities in 14 different countries in Asia, Europe, North and South America.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Exhibits insight and mechanical design sense to develop and meet design requirements with product designs that are manufacturable, cost-efficient, reliable, and better than the competition.
  • Open to innovation, input from others, and always seeks the better way to meet the goal.
  • Continually develops individual analytical skills and is also knowledgeable about the best tools and methods to analyze a given design problem and develop a good understanding of design risk factors.
  • Documents calculations and analysis so that design is understandable to other engineers later in time.
  • Applies technical judgment to identify the best ideas and avoid potential problems; and understands and introduces innovative technologies as needed for the best design.
  • Makes sound decisions after careful deliberation of the alternatives and will revisit prior decisions as justified by new information.
  • Coordinates resources to bring a project to fruition.
  • Works productively with other engineers, designers, technicians, sales representatives, installers, and project managers so the project is delivered on schedule and on budget.
  • Schedules and leads design reviews to inform others of project status, and solicits input from other engineers, Production, Sales, and Installation.


Education and Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or higher degree from a four-year accredited college or university; applicable technical experience in a mechanical design role.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, mechanical design software, and good at internet research. Knowledge of Solid Works and simulation using FEA preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to details.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines through organization and time management
  • Ability to work under challenging conditions (multi-tasking, scheduling, etc.)
  • 15% travel both domestically and international required.
