The Payload Launch Sites Support Services (PLSSS) Program within SSC provides all launch processing support functions for Office of Space Launch (OSL). The program’s two primary operating locations are Vandenberg AFB, CA and Cape Canaveral AFS, FL. Key elements of the PLSSS program include satellite launch processing, satellite transportation operations, satellite propellant loading operations, and satellite processing facilities O&M, clean room operations, and safety and environmental services

As an entry level Mechanical Engineer with the PLSSS team at the Vandenberg AFB location, you will be called upon to troubleshoot malfunctioning equipment, then design and implement innovative solutions.

Selected candidate will work alongside the industry’s most talented mechanical, civil, and electrical engineers. The ability to collaborate effectively across interdisciplinary teams is essential

This role’s primary focus will be on HVAC systems (motors, pumps, chillers, boilers, fans, compressors, and controls). You will work with motivated teams and your work will be held to a very high standard. A 9/80 work schedule is an available option

The applicant selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information

Basic Qualifications
• Interest in Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Systems

• Familiarity with mechanical and electrical equipment associated with HVAC systems (motors, pumps, chillers, boilers, fans, compressors, and controls)

• Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, system codes, and specifications

• Must be a United States citizen

• Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance

Desired skills
• Interest in Predictive Maintenance Technologies (Infrared Thermography, Vibration Analysis, Ultrasonic and Motor Circuit Analysis) to ensure optimal system reliability

• Demonstrated ability troubleshooting and diagnosing system problems, then preparing written instructions for repair or replacement of components

• Experience giving technical direction to maintenance employees to perform repairs and minor modifications

• Experience giving technical direction to vendors and contractors on major retrofit and new system installation projects.

• Demonstrated proficiency researching and analyzing technical information to develop innovative solutions

• Proficiency with AutoCAD

• Well versed with MS Office, especially Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
