Job Details

Cobham is seeking a Mechanical Engineer – Aerial Refueling Equipment that will design and analyze mechanical and fuel system aerospace products. This position is located in Davenport, IA.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducts analyses and designs mechanical, hydraulic, and fuel system aerospace products; to include performing force, power, pressure drop, and other such analysis for Aerial Refueling equipment and components.
  • Participates in multi-discipline Integrated Product Teams to design new and improve existing products and components.
  • Performs root cause failure analysis; recommends, implements and validates corrective actions.
  • Supports Research & Development (R&D) projects supporting the next generation of aerial refueling equipment and platforms.
  • Supports Manufacturing Engineers to improve design for manufacturability and resolve production issues.
  • Self-starter that works with others to meet technical, cost, schedule, and other program requirements.
  • Ensures all customer product requirements are correctly interpreted, met and verified.
  • Travels to customer or supplier sites as required for component development and qualification.
  • Tracks, manages, and mitigates mechanical, and fuel system equipment and component engineering risks.
  • Recommends alterations to development and design to improve quality of products and/or procedures.
  • Works frequently with other Mechanical Engineers, Technicians, and Manufacturing Engineers.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in  Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
  • 2+ years of experience in an Engineering discipline.
  • This position requires access to technology, materials, software or hardware that is controlled by export laws of the US.  In order to be eligible you must be either a US Citizen or Permanent Resident. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master of Science degree in Mechanical, Aerospace Engineering or related discipline.
  • Technical background in developing and specifying fuel and/or mechanical system components.
  • Experience in reviewing and proposing designs for adherence to standards, e.g. ASME and SAE, specifications and requirements. 
  • Experience with design to industry and military standards such as MIL-STD-810, and/or DO-160.
  • Experience with ensuring requirements are correctly interpreted and applied to designs and products.
  • Experienced with certifying designs per FAA 14 CFR Part 25 and/or MIL-HDBK-516 Air Worthiness requirements.
  • Experience with ASME Y14.5M – Knowledgeable in the application and interpretation of Y14.5M.
  • Knowledge of DOORS requirements management tools desired.
  • Understanding of electrical and electro-mechanical systems and installations.
  • Knowledge of one or more of the following: CATIA, ANSYS, Flowmaster, Easy5, MARC, Patran/Nastran, Adams and/or Matlab
  • Experience with aircraft structures design.
  • Experience in executing formal component and system verification.
  • Detail oriented, strong written and verbal communication skills, excels in a collaborative multi-discipline team environment, innovative, adaptive and instills excellence.
