The Solar and Astrophysics group at Lockheed Martin Advanced Technology Center (ATC) is seeking a senior mechanical engineer with experience in space flight instrumentation for research based missions to support the GeoCarb program. The candidate will have experience in performing the design, development, assembly, and integration of imaging instrumentation, mechanisms, or structures

Basic Qualifications
• Bachelors degree from an accredited college in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering Technologies, or equivalent experience/combined education, with 5 years of professional experience; or 3 years of professional experience with a related Masters degree
• Experience in the development and design of mechanisms, structures, and/or optomechanical hardware.
• Experience with modeling and drafting in CREO
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes and structures
.• Hands-on hardware experience
• Mechanical 3D modeling, - Knowledge of Mechanical Design principles including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)

Desired skills
• Experience in model management and engineering drawing release
• Experience resolving hardware failures, discrepancies and/or test anomalies (root-cause, disposition, corrective action, review boards…)
• Experience in spaceborne visible, ultraviolet, and infrared imaging systems
• Experience in spaceflight hardware design, assembly, and integration
• Ability to plan the design, development, and testing of mechanical assemblies
• Experience with space flight lifecycle reviews
• Knowledge of materials and the mechanical, thermal, and electrical implications of their selection
.• Hands-on hardware experience and experience with generating assembly instructions
• Fluency in mechanical 3D modeling methods and practices for components, assemblies, and drawing creation - Knowledge of Mechanical Design principles including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
• Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills with technical and non-technical audiences
