Manage the Parts, Materials, and Processes laboratories at LMSSC-Sunnyvale site which includes approximately 40 individual contributors. Provide mentoring and direct leadership for one Assoc Manager. PMP Laboratories include piece part destructive physical analysis (DPA), part and material failure analysis (F/A), engineering development testing (EDL) and raw material characterization, acceptance testing and production support testing (MPL). Recruit, hire, and train suitable scientific and engineering professionals to operate lab equipment and instruments, to determine scientifically valid part performance/construction characteristics, and material properties, and to document results in standard laboratory reports. Provide talent management including performance assessments, work assignments, salary planning, and recognition/disciplinary actions. Manage incoming workload and headcount to achieve throughput, cost, and turnaround objectives, while being responsive to Program/Manufacturing priorities. Oversee technical adequacy of work output, arrange for training of personnel in new techniques and/or use of new equipment, and assure that SSC parts and materials testing satisfies the needs of SSC Programs. Determines best test methods and personnel to apply to specific parts and materials testing needs, assuring technical validity of results and timely completion of tasks, reports, etc. Work collaboratively with PMP Engineering personnel, Program Engineering personnel, and other Specialty Engineering disciplines to establish test methods and instrumentation appropriate to the technical needs of parts and materials used in SSC hardware applications. Maintain state-of-the-art laboratory equipment and facilities suitable for examining high reliability piece parts and critical materials for space and launch vehicle applications. Prepares capital equipment replacement/upgrade plans and budget estimates for lab sections being managed. Assure that employees work safely and comply with Environmental, Safety and Health requirements and regulations. Support lab business process standardization efforts across SSC sites and drive implementation in the Sunnyvale PMP labs. Utilize LM full spectrum leadership attributes in carrying out the responsibilities of this position

Basic Qualifications
Strong technical background, subject matter expertise or experience in at least one Specialty discipline.
Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemistry, Material Science or a related scientific discipline.
Demonstrated skills providing technical and administrative direction to other employees, for purposes of accomplishing piece-part and material laboratory testing.
Knowledge of testing methodologies and the lab instruments normally used for performance of testing.
Demonstrated consistent high performance and track record for meeting or exceeding objectives, leading teams and interacting with others at all levels and across all sites.
Experience providing briefings to management regarding workload, throughput metrics, and staffing
Demonstrated ability to manage strategic initiatives and successfully implement processes and solutions.
Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional and multi-geographical teams.
Knowledge of the LM full spectrum leadership model and the competencies necessary to fulfill leadership expectations at LM.
Excellent written and oral communications skills

Desired skills
Demonstrated leadership experience in a laboratory environment.
Experience performing and organizing lab testing efforts and measuring work output so that customer timelines and priorities can be satisfied, and progress reports can be made.
Experience performing testing in one of more of the PMP Laboratory areas.
Proficiency with Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) for assigning/tracking test assignments and producing laboratory reports.
Proficiency in using SSC business tools such as SAP, PMPDB, LabView, Microsoft Office, Oracle Enterprise Performance Management System and EPDM
