Position Overview:

As Manager of Device Technologies at TELUS, you will lead a team of highly experienced and knowledgeable subject matter experts in trialing, developing and supporting new technologies, features and services on TELUS’ wireless devices.


In this role you will have the opportunity to work with the latest wireless device technologies, including LTE-Advanced, Machine-to-Machine and IMS/VoLTE/RCS, and you will build close ties with major device technology providers, including Apple, Samsung, Qualcomm and others. In this role you will also have significant influence on major strategic decisions for TELUS and the executive exposure that comes with that, as well as the opportunity to participate in and drive standards bodies and other industry forums such as 3GPP, PTCRB and GSMA.

  • Lead, coach and support a highly engaged and performing team, support team member development and steer the team’s evolution to ensure it continues to thrive in a rapidly changing industry

  • Collaborate with device OEM partners, technology providers (e.g. Chipset vendors) and internal stakeholders to ensure alignment between TELUS’ and device industry roadmaps

  • Support major cross-functional technology implementation projects, ensuring TELUS devices meet functionality, interoperability and performance requirements

  • Manage the evolution of the device realization/certification program to ensure continued cost efficiency while meeting or exceeding time to market and quality targets

  • Drive initiatives to quantifiably increase customer satisfaction with TELUS products and services

  • Leverage device, network and market data analytics to deliver operational and business insights

  • Drive major strategic decisions across TELUS business lines by leveraging your knowledge of mobile device ecosystems and insights into device technology trends

  • Represent TELUS within industry bodies and forums responsible for standardization and product commercialization


Required Skills & Abilities:
  • Leadership expertise with the ability to coach, support and mentor team members in an open, honest and approachable way

  • Outstanding communication skills and ability to convey complex messages to technical and non-technical audiences, at all levels of the organization

  • Ability to build and maintain trust-based relationships with internal and external stakeholders

  • Demonstrated ability to cope with ambiguity and deal with conflict

Required Professional Designation/Certification:
  • University bachelor degree in Engineering Required

  • MBA or Master’s degree in Science/Engineering preferred

Required Experience:
  • 5+ years of experience in the wireless communications field

  • 2+ years of experience in device design, development and realization

  • Experience as a people leader is highly desirable

  • Working knowledge of business operation and project execution analysis and performance evaluation, as well as project management methodologies and best practices (waterfall, agile and hybrid)

  • Experience managing budgets (CAPEX/OPEX forecasting, variance tracking, accruals) for large (>$1M) programs, a plus

  • Deep knowledge and understanding of wireless device technologies (LTE-Advanced, 5G, NB-IoT, WiFi), platforms (Android, iOS) and standards (3GPP, OMA, IETF, IEEE, ETSI)
