Description:  Linux Systems Administrator

The Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) in Atlanta, GA is seeking a Linux Administrator who has interest in intellectually challenging and rewarding work. This opportunity is with our Cybersecurity, Information Protection, and Hardware Evaluation Research Lab (CIPHER).  CIPHER conducts applied research focused on cyber threats and countermeasures, secure multi-level information sharing, resilient command and control network architectures, reverse engineering, vulnerability identification, and high performance computing and analytics. INTERNAL TITLE:  Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist I

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for design, deployment, management and administration of the CIPHER Linux infrastructure.  The individual will work with other Linux engineers to meet the goals and objectives of various projects throughout the Lab. Administration emphasis is centered around using a provisioning and configuration management strategy to efficiently administer the lab’s infrastructure. Infrastructure design includes full lifecycle Linux deployment, networking, security, hardware, scripting and programming. The position will also require knowledge of supporting highly available and redundant applications and services for our customers.

Travel Required: 20% travel

REQUIREMENTS THAT MUST BE MET TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION:

  • Candidate must be a US citizen
  • Candidate must be capable of holding a Secret DoD Security clearance.
  • Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain DoD Directive 8570.1 IAT Level II compliance within 12 months of hire.

Education: BS in computer science, electrical engineering or related technical field. Sufficient experience may allow for a different BS.

Skills:

  • Experience in Linux configuration and administration.
  • Basic understanding of networking concepts will be required.
  • Experience issuing and managing SSL certificates and certificate authorities required.
  • Working knowledge of Tomcat/Apache, and MySQL/PostgreSQL required.

ADDITIONAL PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Working knowledge of SELinux
  • RHEL systems management (Spacewalk, Foreman, etc.)
  • Configuration management (Puppet, Chef, CFengine, Salt Stack, Ansible, etc.)
  • VMware ESXi management (vCenter, vCloud, etc.)
  • Application support (Atlassian, Solarwinds, etc.)
