Job Description: The Advanced Concepts Lab is seeking a full-time research engineer/scientist with prior experience in Linux administration and helpdesk management.  Though this position focuses primarily on research projects, the role also requires the ability to provide work direction to students and co-ops who respond to helpdesk requests.  This role would be an initial responsibility for the candidate while their clearance is processing.  This role also requires the candidate to have strong skills in Microsoft Windows, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, and Apple OS-X.  Once cleared, the candidate will transition to a primary role of Linux administrator for our project networks.  In this role, an understanding of the configuration of systems operating in a secured environment is a huge advantage.  Changing security requirements make researching novel ideas of how to solve complex operating system configuration issues a major portion of this job.  Experience automating such configurations with kickstarts and/or puppet is a major plus. 


Requirements:  The candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a government security clearance.  The candidate will be expected to obtain and/or maintain compliance with DoD 8570-M (which will require a baseline certification of a Security+ and/or a CISSP, additional computing environment certifications are also required).  Strong preference will be given to candidates who already have a security clearance.

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in a related technical field (a bachelor’s in Information Technology is strongly preferred).  Willingness to pursue a master’s degree.

Experience: 0-2 Years

Skills:Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 and 7, Fedora 20+, Mac OS-X, kickstarts, Puppet, WebHelpDesk (or similar helpdesk environment software)

Other: Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.
