The Department of Physics, Computer Science and Engineering (PCSE) at Christopher Newport University invites applications for the positions of Lecturer in Computer Science and Information Systems, effective August 21, 2017. These positions are full-time, non-tenure-track appointments with nominal teaching loads of 4-4. These are one-year appointments.   Applicants must be committed to undergraduate education and must have effective oral and written communication skills. The Ph.D. in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, Systems Engineering or a closely related field is required for appointment at the rank of Lecturer.  Individuals who are ABD and will not hold the Ph.D. by the time of appointment and/or possess a master’s degree in a related field will be considered for appointment at the rank of Instructor.  Phi Beta Kappa membership is highly desirable.

 

The Department employs 22 full-time faculty and offers six undergraduate programs (computer science, information systems, information science, applied physics, electrical engineering, computer engineering) with a total of nearly 500 majors.  Additionally, we offer a Master’s program in Applied Physics and Computer Science with 15-20 students. We are a highly collegial faculty who encourage teaching and research across the disciplines. Research activities include artificial intelligence, computer vision, cryptography, robotics, software and systems engineering, and science education. The department has close relations with technology companies and nearby federal labs such as the Department of Energy's Jefferson Accelerator Facility and NASA Langley Research Center.
