MITREs Communications Network Engineering and Analysis Department, T861,  which is part of MITREs Infrastructure and Networking Technical Center, seeks a Senior Wireless Networking Engineer to perform systems engineering, design, analysis, R&D, and experimentation of wireless networks supporting various U.S. government initiatives.



This is an excellent opportunity to leverage your technical expertise, thought leadership and insights to solve our customers most complex problems. You will work with a team of highly skilled engineers on wireless networking projects.



Key Functions:



Specific duties
generally include a combination of research, design, analysis, testing,
experimentation, prototyping, and/or modeling and simulation to address complex
questions regarding design, security, and performance of wireless networking
that are faced by MITREs customers. As the governments not-for-profit,
trusted, unbiased advisor, MITRE performs advanced wireless networking research
that is very different from the operational networking support that is
typically provided by DoD contractors. Our work does not involve administering,
operating, troubleshooting, or otherwise maintaining a production
communications network. Our efforts focus on layer 2 and above of the OSI
stack, not on the physical layer.  Example projects include:


    Perform systems engineering, design, analysis,
and experimentation of wireless networks.


    Serve as a thought leader in one or more
wireless networking domains through publication in technical journals,
conferences, external exhibitions, standards bodies, panels, patent
applications, etc.


    Develop technical research ideas and craft proposals
for research initiatives


    Engage with customers to analyze operational
requirements, address communications challenges, apply sound technology
solutions, and advance the state of wireless networking for benefit of the
sponsor mission


    Design and analyze tactical wireless networks to
align with requirements


    Evaluate, validate, integrate, and design new wireless
protocols and technologies to meet sponsors missions


    Lead red-team efforts to uncover the root cause
of performance issues in complex operational environments


    Rapid lab prototyping, field testing, technical
benchmarking, and modeling and simulation












    Develop additional project opportunities to
expand the wireless portfolio of the organization.












Required Qualifications:

    BS and 10+ years or MS and 8+ years of
experience in wireless network research and engineering.


    Deep understanding of tactical and/or commercial
wireless protocols, networks, systems, and standards with the ability to derive
operational implications (implementation, interoperability, performance,
security).


    Background in MAC and upper layer considerations.


    Extensive knowledge of wireless security
standards and technologies.


    Demonstrated hands-on skills in a wireless lab
environment for rapid prototyping and testing.


    Demonstrated thought leadership and customer
engagement skills.


    Excellent written and verbal communication and
presentation skills.


    Desire to grow and foster relationships and
collaborative opportunities with academia and industry.


    Passionate about staying up-to-date with
emerging technologies through continued learning, active engagement with
academia and industry, and a desire to remain hands-on. 


    Willingness to mentor early career staff,
contributing to their development technically and professionally.

      

 

     Preferred Qualifications:


    MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering and 15+
years of experience in wireless network research and engineering.


    Active TS/SCI Clearance.


    Familiarity with testing and measurement
techniques, as well as commercial and open-source testing tools.


    Modeling and simulation experience using
commercial tools (eg Riverbed/OPNET, MATLAB, QualNet, STK).












    Experience with one or more programming
languages such as Java or Python.
