As part of the Automation Engineering Team, our Single Seed Systems group is shaping the future of our R&D Pipeline workflows by helping define and advance technical innovations, including automated seed and seedling handling to provide high operational efficiency, and chipping systems to enable high throughput and high quality genetic workflows.  We are seeking a talented individual to become an integral member of our Single Seed Systems group as Chipping Systems Platform Lead.  In this role, the individual will be responsible for collaborating with key stakeholders/organizations to deliver a cohesive strategy and vision to enable the most advanced genetic based workflows.  Additionally, the individual will serve as project lead capable of matrixed leadership of a multi-disciplined engineering/design team throughout the project lifecycle from concept proposal through detailed design, fabrication, testing, installation, and field support.

Responsibilities include: 
  • Ownership of strategic/technical vision for seed chipping systems
  • Leveraging professional network, pipeline/workflow knowledge, engineering knowledge, and vision to create targeted, value minded, and innovative project proposals
  • Matrixed leadership of a multi-disciplined project design team throughout the entire project lifecycle
  • Project management, including planning/scheduling, requirements gathering, status updates, information/data analysis, machine/operator safety analysis, machine/operator/project risk mitigation, production/assembly team interaction, site preparation, FAT/SAT, and production integration
  • Applying principals of Systems Engineering, industry design procedures, safety standards and project management to system design and execution
  • Direct oversite and approval of engineering designs, including drawing/model review
  • Design and development of automated machines and systems for production laboratory environments


Required Education and Skills/Experience:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field
  • Minimum of 10 or more years of relevant Engineering and/or Project Management experience
  • Proven track record of successful project management across functions
  • Design and delivery of automated systems
  • Innovative with analytical problem solving abilities
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience using 3D CAD, PDM/PLM, project management software


Desired Skills/Experience:

  • Experience with MS Project
  • Experience using SolidWorks and/or Enterprise PDM (PDM Professional)
  • Experience with assembly structure optimization
  • Experience with Bill of Materials management for repeat builds
  • Experience with revision control of mechanical designs
  • Familiarity/Experience with Genetic/Molecular Breeding/Analysis technologies
