Job Details

Materials engineer to support development and evaluation of key emerging technologies in core and adjacent technology areas of LMMFC. Brainstorm new applications, mature explanation of ideas in white papers, apply analysis to demonstrate feasibility, and mature studies into proposals. Reduce risk by developing prototype level hardware as proof of principles in order to advance technical/manufacturing readiness levels. Mature the scope of new development programs during start-up while managing customer relations and expectations. Support business development team in locating new funding resources.
Additional responsibility; to support development, generation, and signoff of Pro-E, CREO layouts and detailed drawings or ICDs, piece parts, sub-assemblies, assemblies and integrated test articles. Individual will be responsible for answering ECTRs, and generating NORs, and presenting/supporting change boards. Requires significant coordination effort with internal design team, suppliers, electronic packaging, checking and structural/thermal/material analysts. Prefer experience regarding hardware design and some proficiency supporting the production floor

Basic Qualifications
-Must be a US Citizen and have the ability to obtain a Department of Defense Secret Clearance
-Materials & Processes experience in industries such as aerospace, automotive, printed wiring board assembly (PWA) or other similar industries
-Demonstrated strength in Materials & Processes engineering with a desire to learn with demonstrated problem solving and analytical skills.
-Experience in selecting materials and processes for specific applications
-Experience with failure analysis methods
-Experience with troubleshooting production line issues
-Communications skills, with the ability to communicate to a wide range of individuals including technology subject matter experts, business development, product engineer, leadership, and current or potential customers.
-Requires the ability to craft a technical/programmatic strategy that is consistent with MFC lines of business and the charters of advanced programs and applied research

Desired skills
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in any of the following areas:
-Materials Science, Material’s Engineering, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Applied Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Science, or Engineering Mechanics

-Hands-on experience working directly with materials in a laboratory or production environment
-Exceptional vision in applying existing and developing technology to new applications that creates customer-recognized value and which are aligned with or adjacent to our core businesses
