We work closely with electrical utilities, construction contractors, developers, and energy investors around the world on large, small, and complex projects with a focus on high voltage transmission and distribution reinforcement, upgrades, and expansion. Within the firm, our Substation Team collaborates on renewables, hydropower, traditional generation, and traction power integration. We have an immediate opportunity for a Lead Electrical Engineer to join that team and focus on substation design in our Denver, CO office.
# The Role
The Lead Electrical Engineer - Substations will serve as a technical leader on projects and work with other discipline leads to ensure quality and timely deliverables to clients. The position requires specific electrical substation design experience, and requires supervision and mentorship of junior engineers.Key responsibilities include:
+ Technical oversight of projects ensuring electrical engineering is in accordance with industry, client, and regulatory requirements
+ Performance review, supervision, and mentorship of multiple junior engineers/designers
+ Conceptual and detailed design for substations ranging from 4kV to 765kV
+ Protection & Control One line, three lines, DC schematics, relay panel/control room layouts, & wiring.
+ Physical Design General Arrangements/Plans, equipment sections/elevations/details, shielding, grounding, cable & conduit schedules.
+ SCADA Integration design, RTU lists, and equipment configuration development (RTAC/SMP/D20/D200, & legacy RTUs including DNP3/Modbus/IEC61850/Mirrored bits).
+ Telecom - Fiber/Copper/Ethernet communications, media converters, fiber patch panels, splice boxes, HMI design, & outside plant telecom interfacing.
+ Relay Settings SEL, GE, & electromechanical type relays.
+ Electrical Calculations - Voltage drop, cable ampacity, equipment sizing & ratings, short circuit, rigid bus, shielding, lighting, grounding, overcurrent protection coordination, battery and charger sizing
+ Material specifications and BOM development
+ Self-performing design and delegation/mentorship to junior engineers & designers
+ Performing independent Quality Assurance (QA) checks of substation designs
+ Act as Engineer of Record, signing and sealing project drawings and documents in accordance with State/Regulatory requirements (Must be a registered/licensed Professional Engineer)
+ Direct technical communication with clients on projects to build strong relationships
+ Ensure projects solutions and deliverables consider and use, as appropriate, cutting edge technology/methodology
+ Work closely with the Project Manager, Scheduler, Project Accountant, Lead CAD Designer, & Project Civil Engineers for seamless project execution

# Job Requirements
+ BSEE with a focus in Power Engineering, Masters' level Power coursework or certificate programs in Power preferred
+ Registered/Licensed Professional Engineer (Electrical Power) in at least one US state, with the ability to acquire additional state licenses
+ At least ten years of experience in electric utility substations
+ Ability to register with NCEES for additional state licensing required - NCEES record is a plus
+ Knowledge of IEEE, NEC, & NESC standards
+ IEC61850 (GOOSE, MMS, & SMVs) experience preferred, as is experience with CDEGs grounding and ASPEN Oneliner
+ Must have the ability to work in the United States immediately
