The Cognitive Science & Artificial Intelligence Department has a business need for a Lead Artificial Intelligence Engineer who is a subject matter expert in any of the following areas: machine learning, knowledge-based reasoning, automated planning, semantics, and ontologies.
This position involves leading small teams in technical work, developing leadership capacity, and building artificial intelligence capabilities to meet current and anticipated sponsor needs. As a technical leader, the successful candidate will engage in business development to identify, create, and leverage opportunities for technical innovation and engagement across MITREs broad national security and public sector sponsor base, mentor junior staff, and share knowledge across MITRE. This position involves working in interdisciplinary teams to develop AI products and solutions, maintain awareness of external innovation and investments, and the transition/transfer of AI products and solutions across programs.

Qualifications
Understanding of MITRE and its role in operating FFRDCs. Overarching understanding of DoD and Civilian environment and associated work programs. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with mid-level to senior leaders across MITRE. Demonstrated capability in innovating novel concepts or adapting/integrating existing concepts to solve challenging government or military problems. Exceptional communication skills to provide internal and external guidance up and down the chain on extremely complex problems. Demonstrated ability to build sponsor relationships as a trusted advisor as well as to build and lead high performing teams.
Required: M.S. degree in artificial intelligence or related discipline and 5 years of experience in defining, developing, and deploying AI solutions for critical national efforts.
Preferred: Ph.D./D.Sc. in artificial intelligence or related discipline and 2 years of experience in defining, developing, and deploying AI solutions for critical national efforts.
Minimum: B.S. and 8 years related experience.
