An Electrical Engineer IV (EE IV) independently performs assignments with minimal input as to the general results expected.  An EE IV is capable of designing, building, and integrating new electronic designs into prototype equipment with a focus on manufacturability and expense for serial production.  An EE IV is capable of creating CID, WID, and block diagrams for documenting electrical systems design.  Ability to work with external vendors to create UL and CE compliant wire harness and PCB designs.  A Basic knowledge of PCB design and is capable of updating existing Kärcher PCB designs.  Capable of programming PCB's using embedded C. Understands embedded communication for CANBUS, RS485, I2C, and SPI for device-to-device communication within a product. 

Examples of possible specific duties follow:

  1. Design electrical system architecture for new AC and DC floor cleaning products
  2. Create prototype PCB hardware through trace and surface mount soldering
  3. Develop PCB software using embedded C
  4. Design and fabricate wire harnesses for prototype equipment including crimping connectors
  5. Integrate multiple electronic devices to function together through CANBUS, RS485, I2C, and SPI
  6. Creates engineering documentation packages usually in the form of CID, WID, and block diagram.
  7. Troubleshoot product performance issues using standard electrical measurement tools
  8. Provide directions and technical assistance to Engineers and Technicians on project teams
  9. Collaborates well with other departments such as Test Services, Sourcing, Project Management, Industrial Design, Document Control, and Operations during product design and release
  10. Work directly with vendors and agency testing facilities to resolve EMC and electrical safety compliance problems in new product designs 


Background Required:

  • 12 years of combined education and experience working in electronics prototyping and development
  • Experience designing and building bread boards
  • Experience crimping connectors and creating functional wire connections in electromechanically system
  • Surface mount and trace soldering experience
  • Experience designing and programming Arduino boards is a plus
  • Experience with PLC function and programming is a plus
  • Experience using Windchill or similar PLM system is a plus 
  • Proficient using Oscilloscope, multimeter, and current meter to troubleshoot electrical system problems
  • Ability to read and correctly interpret 2D Ladder Logic and Point-to-Point Schematics
  • A strong electrical aptitude with an attention to detail
  • Ability to collaborate willingly in a team environment
  • Professional integrity and confidentiality in all job aspects
  • Experience with electrical motors, pumps, solenoids, and vacuum systems is a plus


Education Required:

  • 4-year degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or similar field from an accredited University.
  • Trained in "C" or similar programming language
  • FPGA programming knowledge is a plus
  • E-Plan or Creo training is a plus
