Junior Engineer (Electrical)

$84,492.00 - $102,708.00 Annually, Plus Excellent Benefits

Start your career as a Junior Engineer (Electrical) with an industry-leading water and wastewater utility. East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) offers excellent preparation for professional registration and stable career opportunities, along with state-of-the-art electrical engineering and control systems assignments for water and wastewater facilities, as well as electrical distribution systems. Junior Engineers also provide assistance and technical support to various personnel within EBMUD, including operations, maintenance, and instrumentation staff.

Junior Engineer (Electrical) is the entry level within EBMUD's professional electrical engineering career ladder. All assignments are under the direct supervision of registered engineers and provide qualifying experience for professional registration.

With successful performance, incumbents normally advance to Assistant Engineer (Electrical) ($97,968 – $119,088). With further experience and registration, you will qualify to compete for promotion to Associate Electrical Engineer ($108,180 – $131,496). 

The most competitive candidates will have previous experience with any of the following:
• Knowledge of standards-based electric power system design using the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Color Books, C37 switchgear standards, C57 transformer standards, the National Electrical Code (NEC), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 70E, and National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) MG-1
• Ability to produce the hardware and network infrastructure design for PLC- and RTU-based water/wastewater control systems, as well as produce the software application logic using existing project templates
• Knowledge of construction-phase electrical engineering support for acceptance testing of electrical equipment according to InterNational Electrical Testing Association (NETA) standards.

The salary range is $7,041 per month increasing to $7,393, $7,763, $8,151, and $8,559 after 6, 18, 30, and 42 months, respectively.  


1. A bachelor's degree in an ABET-accredited electrical engineering curriculum OR a California EIT Certificate.

2. No experience is required.

3. Must possess a valid California driver's license and have a satisfactory driving record.

Other requirements include possession of the physical characteristics to perform the critical and important duties of the job. Must be willing to work overtime as needed.
