The LCS Sustainment In-Service Ship Design Functional Product Lead will provide marine engineering expertise to coordinate, investigate, plan and estimate ship repair and modernization issues. They will be required to travel to a ship’s location for planning, or execution, support. This person shall lead the transformation of modernization/alteration concepts into specification packages for execution by ship repair activities. They are expected to perform the following tasks:
1. Coordinate a team of subject matter experts to develop, and review, design specifications for the maintenance and modernization of Littoral Combat Ships;
2. Actively engage in the troubleshooting and correction of significant shipboard casualties;
3. Support the resolution of class design issues and lessons learned from previous work;
4. Provide input for the update for LCS 1 Class ships technical publications;
5. Validate and document material deficiencies on LCS 1 Class Ships;
6. Travel (15%-30%) and work in a shipyard/shipboard environment

Basic Qualifications
1. Minimum 10 years of relevant experience planning, estimating, and managing ship repair.
2. Experience leading teams in the development of ship repair work packages based on:
a. Effective knowledge of ship hull, mechanical and electrical systems implementation, and integration.
b. Effective knowledge of ship navigation, communication, and combat systems implementation and integration.
3. Ability to research design and implementation issues, read and translate ship drawings, and communicate implementation approaches and deficiencies.
4. Technical understanding of computer modeling applications (AutoCad, Navisworks Manage, Ship Constructor, or similar)

Desired skills
1. Experience leading teams in a shipyard production or engineering department
2. Underway assignment aboard commercial or military ships, preferably with five years of underway time in engineering billets AND qualified as a deck watch officer or Officer of the Deck. An operational tour as a Chief Engineer on a combined diesel and gas turbine powered ship is a plus!
3. Navy repair organization experience, including the preparation of repair and modernization specifications. (Requires and understanding of the Joint Forces Maintenance Manual (JFMM) and the development of 4E Work Specifications.)
4. Knowledge of Navy ship Hull, Mechanical, Electrical (HM/E), Deck equipment and Combat Systems equipment and systems.
5. Knowledge of LCS Program, the ship, and its systems.
6. Ability to build effective relationships with Ship’s Crew and Navy customers
7. Demonstrated problem solving and decision making skills.
8. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
9. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Naval Architecture, or Marine Engineering or equivalent ship development or naval engineering education and experience
