Description: This job is for a full time research faculty position in the Human Systems Engineering Branch (HSEB). Our research group is predominantly focused on the research, development and application of human systems integration (HSI) tools and methods to the design, development, and evaluation of complex systems. This position involves the following activities:
- Conduct research on human performance
- Perform analyses of human behavior in engineered systems
- Design and test hardware and software user interfaces
- Develop conceptual and computational models of human behavior and human performance at the individual, team, and societal levels
- Identify criteria related to personnel, manpower, and training issues associated with complex systems
- Assess safety and occupational health issues, personnel survivability issues, and human habitability issues in the context of complex system design and operation.
New hires would:
- Assigned to the Systems Engineering Research Division to support research projects and business development in HSEB.
- Support ongoing activities where GTRI is providing HSI support for DoD and commercial R&D programs.
- Transition to Task or Project lead for customer funded programs, assuming technical and financial responsibility for tasks.
Facilitate business and technical relationships in support of customer program managers and technical leaders.
Education: M.S or Ph.D. (Ph.D. preferred) in Engineering or Science Related Field (Mathematics, Biology, Economics, Psychology, Medicine, etc.)
Senior Research Engineer/Scientist
• A Master’s degree and seven (7) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
• A Master’s degree and nine (9) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree, or
• A Doctoral degree and four (4) years' relevant full-time experience. For candidates holding the Doctoral degree, the last two (2) years of employment prior to employment at Georgia Tech will be considered if adequately documented, and the four-year time in grade requirement be reduced to two (2) years for candidates so qualified.
Principal Research Engineer/Scientist
- A Master's degree and eleven (11) years' relevant full-time experience; or
- A Doctoral degree and seven (7) years' relevant full-time experience.
Desired Technical Skills: (not all required, experience in one is sufficient)
- Task analysis
- Conceptual design and detailed design of user interfaces
- Human behavior modeling
- Measurement and assessment of workload, situation awareness, usability, human performance, and user acceptance
- Experience developing surveys and interview instrument
- Knowledge of experimental design and statistics (basic descriptive statistics, inferential statistics, structural equation modeling)
- Data visualization techniques
- Project management
Relevant experience is considered:
Human factors engineering experience but a background in research, design and analysis in any science or engineering related field accepted
Desired Software skills:
- SPSS, R, or JMP for data analysis and data visualization
- Computational modeling tools used in human factors engineering (discrete event modeling tools such as MicroSaint and Imprint, design tools such as JACK)
Other Requirements :
- Candidate must be a US citizen.
- DoD Secret clearance or ability to obtain a clearance within six months after your employment with Georgia Tech Research Institute begins is required.
