The Test Systems Branch (TSB) of the Test Engineering Division focuses on the research, development and application of Electronic Warfare (EW) and Avionics test tools and test methods. This includes the following activities:

  • Design and development of Hardware-in-the-loop (HITL) test systems for EW and Avionics subsystems
  • Design and development of Systems Integration Lab (SIL) test systems for integrated EW and avionics systems testing
  • Research into innovative EW and Avionics test architectures
  • Missile Warning Systems engineering and test support
  • RF and EO/IR threat simulation
  • Countermeasures Dispenser Systems (CMDS) research

In support of this mission, the Branch Head provides management and technical oversight for sponsored research, supervising the activities of 10 full time research faculty and 4 students. The Branch Head coordinates with Division level operational activities to include providing monthly performance reporting, managing staff planning and assignments, oversight of sponsored research projects, and business development activities. Additionally, the branch head provides needed support and ensures successful execution of sponsor-interactions including project reviews, requirements reviews, design reviews, test events, and deliveries. Past management experience and a solid understanding of, and experience with organizational policies and procedures and support groups are preferred for this position.

Senior Research Scientist/ Senior Research Engineer

  • A Master’s degree and seven (7) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Master’s degree and nine (9) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree and four (4) years' relevant full-time experience.

Principal Research Scientist    / Principle Research Engineer

  • A Master's degree and eleven (11) years' relevant full-time experience; or
  • A Doctoral degree and seven (7) years' relevant full-time experience.


  • Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or other relevant engineering field
  • 5+ years’ experience in the field of EW or Avionics Engineering


  • US Citizenship and the ability to get a security clearance
  • Experience in project and people management and/or leadership
  • Background in research, design and analysis in any science or engineering related field


  • EW and Avionics interface (MIL-STD-1553, etc.)
  • EW systems engineering including Missile Warning Systems, Radar Warning Receivers, RF Jammers and Countermeasures Dispenser Systems
  • EW Threat systems function, waveforms
  • Design, development and troubleshooting of Ethernet networks
  • Systems engineering, Interface Control Documents
  • Project management
