Highlights


Join MITREs Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) team in designing, implementing, and evaluating state of the art PNT technologies and/or systems.  Candidates will learn on the job as members of larger multi-disciplinary teams comprised of both technical staff and/or other students.


 


We are interested in highly motivated candidates with a wide variety of skills, insatiable curiosity, enthusiasm, and the ability and interest to dig deep on challenging technical problems.


 


Example projects include:


  • Conducting modeling and simulation of alternative satellite navigation constellations.


  • Developing prototype PNT systems (e.g. with software defined radio (SDR) technology) to evaluate the performance of new algorithms and/or waveforms.


  • Implementing and evaluating a Kalman filter to estimate a vehicles position, velocity, attitude using information provided by multiple sensors.


Required qualifications


  • Graduate student pursing a MS or PhD in one of the following disciplines:


  • Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or Mathematics.


  • Preference for students conducting researching into PNT technologies or systems.


  • Coursework in and mastery of calculus, differential equations, linear algebra, stochastic processes


  • Coursework in and mastery of digital signal processing, estimation and detection theory


  • Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, or equivalent mathematical computation, modeling, and simulation tool.

     

Desired qualifications


Coursework in and mastery of:


  • Satellite navigation (Satnav) (Global Positioning Systems (GPS), Galileo, GLONASS, etc.) systems or receivers


  • Wireless communications, antennas and radio propagation theory


  • Filters commonly used by navigation systems (e.g. Kalman filters)


  • Computer science, including: theory, algorithms, cryptography


  • Electromagnetics


  • Real-time and non-real-time embedded systems design and programming


  • Basic software development, debugging, and support


  • Laboratory testing and test equipment


  • Data parsing, reduction, analysis, and visualization

 


*Students need to be currently enrolled and will be enrolled the following semester in a full-time in an accredited degree-seeking university program.*


 


**70% of MITREs full-time jobs require US government security clearances, therefore many internships require that the candidates be clearable.**
