The Faculty of Engineering, Computer Science and Psychology of Ulm University (Ulm, Germany) invites applications for tenured appointment as

Full Professor (W3) for Biomedical Engineering

and Director of the newly founded Institute of Biomedical Engineering. The position is available immediately.

Research carried out at Ulm University has a pronounced orientation toward medicine, profiting from intensive and fruitful collaboration between medical colleagues and those working in scientific or technological disciplines. The new professorship for biomedical engineering is planned to strengthen this interdisciplinary focus.

We look to hire a scientist with engineering background working at the forefront of applications development for heterogeneous biomedical systems; sensor development and sensor signal processing for biomedical applications; and/or hardware-software co-design of biomedical systems. Extension of these topics is conceivable to biomedical microsystems, lab-on-a-chip, cell-chip technology, molecular-biological analysis systems, tissue diagnostics or medical devices for theranostic applications.

We seek an outstanding researcher with demonstrated scientific expertise in a number of the aforementioned areas. Professional experience in industry or at an applications-oriented research institute is desirable.

The successful candidate will manifest a passion for teaching as well as a willingness to shoulder tasks of academic self-governance, including the establishment of a new study program in biomedical engineering. Moreover, the new hire will be expected to develop specialized courses – to be taught in German and English – focusing on the professor’s research interests.

Prerequisites for appointment include an earned doctorate, pedagogical aptitude and additional academic qualifications according to §47 LHG. Ulm University is committed to increasing the representation of women in research and teaching; therefore, the University expressly encourages qualified female candidates to apply for this position.

Interested candidates should submit an application with the usual supporting documentation (curriculum vitae, academic transcripts, list of publications, proposed research program, etc.) in electronic (PDF) form by 13th March 2018 to Prof. Dr. Christian Waldschmidt, Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Computer Science and Psychology of Ulm University, Albert-Einstein-Allee 39, 89081 Ulm, Germany, E-Mail in.dekanat@uni-ulm.de. Additionally, candidates are asked to complete a short questionnaire (downloadable from www.uni-ulm.de/in/fakultaet/aktuelles/stellenangebote.html). Further information concerning the applications process may be obtained from in.dekanat@uni-ulm.de.
