Flight Test Instrumentation Engineer at the LM Aero Palmdale site

This position is for a key integrator and lead for LM Aero Flight Test Instrumentation activities at Palmdale. The assignment will include tasks that involve coordinating user requirements, ensuring that instrumentation design and development meet operational requirements. Responsibilities will include acting as the primary planner and integrator of new flight test instrumentation at Palmdale. Will interface with the line of business technical community as well as the Flight Test Data Center during the development of instrumentation requirements, designs, and installations

Responsible for integrating requirements and programming new data acquisition system (DAS) equipment using COTS and LM developed tools. Responsible for the overall instrumentation coordination with test vehicle maintenance personnel, technicians and the Flight Test Data Center. Will perform electrical design including system diagrams, wiring diagrams, transducer and other hardware specification. Will perform mechanical design including support for DAS/sensor layout and installation

Basic Qualifications
Must be a US Citizen. Applicant selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. For this particular position an active Top Secret security clearance, with a current background investigation is desired

Experience with the following:
• Analog and digital circuit design and analysis
• Signal conditioning, transducers, and data acquisition
• Working knowledge of electronics and experience in electronics troubleshooting techniques and tools, including multi-meters, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, and other common laboratory equipment
• Microprocessor firmware design and embedded system design
• Aircraft instrumentation concepts including:
o Selecting transducers and signal conditioning
o Calibration methods
o Data buses
o Telemetry
o Solid state recording and digital video recording / compression
o Aircraft wiring
• Placing orders, managing status and costs
• Avionics bus protocols including MilStd-1553, ARINC-429, IEEE 1394, Ethernet and Fiber Channel
• Flight test instrumentation protocols and standards
• GPS and IRIG time standards
• Real time and post test data processing

Applicant must have good organizational and communications skills and will be required to work occasional odd, weekend, or overtime shifts

Desired skills
Extensive knowledge of instrumentation system designs supporting fast paced flight test programs
Prior experience with LM Aero Flight Test Instrumentation processes, procedures, and tools
CATIA, CCD, AutoCAD or similar design tools
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering
