Job Description



The Field Support Electrical Engineer will be responsible for engineering design and maintenance support of two PPI member electric distribution cooperative systems, each located approximately thirty miles north and south, respectively, of Champaign-Urbana Illinois. The responsibilities of this position will include analyses of the systems, development of plans, and implementation of construction and maintenance projects; all directed at maintaining continuity of service to consumers. This is a developmental positon with significant opportunity for gaining experience, learning and advancement. This position resides within the PPI organization and is designed to fulfill the engineering support needs of the two PPI member electric cooperatives. Upon demonstration of the candidate’s abilities and successes, there is opportunity to transition to a role at Prairie Power, Inc. involving generation and transmission related engineering support and leadership.



The successful candidate must live within a 45-minute commute to the offices located in Paxton and Mattoon, IL or be willing to relocate to live within a 45-minute commute of these locations. The successful candidate will work from the Member Paxton office, the Member Mattoon office, and PPI’s Springfield office. Therefore, the successful candidate will travel to and from each work location, as required.



Job Requirements



Job knowledge and skills include the familiarity of various engineering reports, studies and investigation techniques; should possess at least a minimal level of understanding regarding communications, public relations, customer services and be able to analyze complex, technical problems to arrive at a sound business decision; must have the ability to accurately assess and implement strategies to address needs; requires strong analytical skills and excellent organization; must have exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to relate ideas, concepts and enthusiasm to peers and superiors; must be proficient with Windows, and Microsoft Office; a working knowledge of WindMil, Power World, Aspen, GIS, and SEL are preferred.



Applicants must have a Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering. A background in the electric utility industry or power engineering curriculum is preferred. Students approaching graduation and recent graduates are encouraged to apply. Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, and designation as an Engineer in Training, Internship or work experience in performing power analysis, preferably within the power industry is preferred but not required at time of employment. Veterans are encouraged to apply as we are military veteran friendly.
