Tenure-track or Tenured Faculty Position in Signals, Systems, and Data Science

The School of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Virginia (UVA) seeks exceptional applicants for a tenure-track or tenured faculty appointment in the broad area of Signals, Systems, and Data Science. Primary appointment will be in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) of the School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS); successful candidates may seek secondary appointment in Computer Science (CS), and an affiliated position in the University-wide Data Science Institute (DSI).

UVA is making game-changing research investments through its strategic investment fund, totaling $2B over 10 years, and Data Science is a priority area. The selected candidate will build and sustain rapidly growing and highly visible research programs at the confluence of ECE and Data Science. The successful candidate will be expected to help build bridges and be engaged in cross-disciplinary research with CS and DSI; teach and advise students at the undergraduate and graduate levels; and perform service to the institution and the profession. Tenure-track Assistant Professor or tenured Associate or Full Professor appointment can be considered, depending on record and experience.

A Ph.D. in a relevant field is required by the start date of the appointment. A commitment to teaching excellence is essential, as is evidence of an explicit commitment to diversity and of advancing understanding and outcomes for underrepresented groups. Candidates must have strong background in signals and systems theory and methods, optimization theory and algorithms, and machine learning; and documented contributions to (ideally large-scale) applications related to the Internet of things, cyber-physical systems, or biomedical data science, which are key cross-cutting focus areas for SEAS and DSI.

UVA is proud to have a strong culture of collaboration and collegiality and is committed to creating collaborative and diverse environments necessary to solve the next generation of research challenges. For a tenure-track appointment, potential to develop a strong and high-impact publication record, and potential to obtain extramural funding in the areas of interest outlined above, are required. For an appointment with tenure, the applicant must have a rapidly emerging or established national reputation, a documented line of research related to the areas of interest outlined above, and a track record of existing and sustained extramural funding.

To apply, visit http://jobs.virginia.edu and search on Posting Number 0622179.

Complete a Candidate Profile online; attach a cover letter, curriculum vitae, statement of teaching philosophy, statement of research interests, and contact information for three references. Applicant screening begins in January 2018, and the position remains open to applicants until filled.
