The Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) department at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in Richmond Virginia invites applications for a junior faculty position in Cyber Physical Systems or RF Micro-/Nano-electronics.

Cyber Physical Systems: Successful applicants will be expected to establish a vigorous research program and collaborate with existing School of Engineering faculty members who have active research interests in cyber physical systems, cyber security in CPS, dependable systems, autonomous systems, Internet of Things, renewable energy systems, power systems analysis, automation and control, transmission and processing, and electronic devices.

Specific examples of research areas of particular interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Automation and Control of Cyber-physical systems
  • Cyber vulnerability analysis and mitigation for OT systems
  • Cyber Resiliency and dependable engineering for high consequence systems.
  • Formal and model-based reasoning for CPS and Cyber assurance.
  • Modeling and Optimization of Networked Devices (e.g. Process control, Healthcare and Smart Grids)
  • Autonomous and Autonomic Systems (UAVs, UGVs)
  • Machine learning and signal processing as applied to cyber-physical systems
  • Platforms, communications and networking to support the internet of things
  • Applications in Smart Cities, UAVs, Smart factories,, Smart Grids, including transportation, advanced manufacturing, and other areas

RF Micro-/Nano-electronics: The areas of interest include, but are not limited to ultra-wideband and ultra-high-capacity RF and terahertz integrated electronics and tunable RF devices and subsystems with applications to sensing, communication, and medical systems/networks. The successful applicant will have strong involvement in the Wright-Virginia Microelectronics Center that houses two class-1000 cleanrooms with state-of-the-art growth, fabrication, and test equipment, and will be expected to establish a vigorous research program and collaborate with existing School of Engineering faculty members who have active research interests in micro/nano-electronics, photonics, renewable energy systems, signal processing and communications, and cyber physical systems.

Founded in 1996, VCU School of Engineering offers ABET accredited undergraduate and graduate programs in Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical and Life Sciences Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, and Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering. It is located in a new 147,000 square foot building with exceptional classroom, laboratory and computational facilities, and is a rapidly growing and dynamic urban engineering school with a strong tradition of industry and federal agency sponsored research. The Electrical and Computer Engineering Department currently has 23 full time faculty members with an annual research expenditure of over 3 million dollars. Qualifications: Applicants should have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in electrical and computer engineering or related discipline. The candidates should also have an outstanding record of achievement and impactful research in academia, industry and/or at national laboratories and demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills. They must have a strong record or commitment to teaching excellence at undergraduate and graduate levels, to providing service to the university and profession, and to broadening the intellectual diversity of the ECE department. Individuals who demonstrate an ability to initiate interdisciplinary research across diverse academic divisions at VCU and inter-collegial collaboration will be given priority.
