Job Details

Experimental Aeromechanics technicians support the fabrication, assembly, calibration, and test of rotorcraft scale models, and the fabrication, static testing and environmental conditioning of composite test articles. Specific responsibilities will include: Support of all composite material machining requirements in the Aeromechanics/Engineering Development Center. Assisting senior technicians with static test operations and environmental conditioning requirements. Support manual and CNC machining of composites and metals. Support of mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and instrumentation assembly, check-out, and calibration, during model test operations at the Stratford Plant and other offsite test facilities, as the test needs require. EH&S and metrology tasks will be required
The ideal candidate will be familiar with helicopter basic operation, demonstrate a willingness to learn and work under the leadership of senior technicians and engineers. Daily work activities will take place in multiple areas of Experimental Aeromechanics as work load dictates

Ideally the candidate will provide support to Engineering Work Request (EWR) requirements and programs under the direction of the Material and Processes Engineering Group with a high level of self-direction and competency
Specific skills relative to position include but not limited to:
-Dressing materials to the designated sizes, with support for static testing
to define the material properties for Engineering
-Provide written comments for peer review prior to test specimen
preparation and planning
-Process engineering work requests using machining skill set, while identifying the necessary activities related to quality machining
-Ability to perform adhesive mixing, composite layup and curing
-Provide a high level of attention to details for assembly of parts, including
measurements with precision devices to high accuracy of 0.0001
-Ability to document the tasks performed with a clear understanding to
traceability, allowing changes in data and drawings to be revised
Other Requirements:
-Flexibility to perform work within any given shift such as lifting of
calibration weights, multiple climbing of stairs and support test related overtime
-Support occasional travel extending several weeks for offsite testing as required
-Familiarization with Mastercam CNC software is desirable
-Technical aptitude is desirable for close tolerance mechanical assembly and electrical wiring, test stand operation and monitoring, blue print reading, job estimating, status and cost reporting
-Ability to assemble complex composite assemblies related to rotorcraft,
with an understanding to form, fit and function, while interacting with
designers and test engineers on interferences and improved features

Basic Qualifications
Candidate should have 7 to 10 years relevant experience in fabrication and/or test operations.
Knowledge of composite materials and processes required to perform surface grinding and milling operations with various materials including Kevlar, fiberglass, graphite, aluminum and steel.
Experience using manual and CNC machines including operating surface grinders, bandsaws, drill presses, and VMC CNC millers is required
Ability to read and interpret engineering & Technical drawings in both hard copy and electronic form
Experience with layup of multi-layer composites, consisting of fiberglass and graphite,with other materials as required
Experience with Composite testing specimens using Sikorsky Engineering Standard Work

Desired skills
