Description: GTRI’s Electro Optical Systems Laboratory (EOSL) is seeking an industry and academia recognized thought-leader who is experienced in the transitioning novel and state-of-the art devices into opto-electronic, electronic, and hybrid systems.  The successful candidate will have experience working with sponsors at high levels within the DoD to define new applications for technology.  This person will be expected to create collaborative relationships between GTRI, Resident Instruction, small businesses and industry to establish GTRI as recognized innovator for identifying ways of utilizing new devices and bringing the new systems to fielded fruition. 

This candidate is expected to operate at a very senior level within EOSL, meeting the following criteria:

  • Active Secret clearance is required. Ability to obtain a Top Secret security clearance is required.  Preference will be given to applicants with an active Top Secret Clearance
  • Must have and be able to demonstrate technical expertise in one or more of the following areas:
    • Electromagnetic Theory
    • Power Electronics
    • Microfabrication
    • Electronic packaging
    • RF and/or electro-optic and photonic devices
  • Must be well connected in the research community and must be well-published and recognized.
  • Must have experience leading multiple high-technology projects.
  • Must be actively involved in past/current leadership in professional societies.
  • Demonstrated ability to act as mentor for high-potential junior researchers
  • Must have a successful record of capturing new business.

Principal Research Scientist  

  • A Master's degree and eleven (11) years' relevant full-time experience; or
  • A Doctoral degree and seven (7) years' relevant full-time experience.

At least the most recent three (3) years of relevant experience shall have been at a responsible technical or managerial level. Preference will be shown for qualified personnel holding a Doctoral degree in their specific discipline. 

Degree:  Ph.D. required in Physics or Electrical Engineering 

Areas of Expertise: Microwave circuits, microfabrication, electromagnetic theory, RF and/or electro-optic and photonic devices, engineering leadership, customer relationship building

Level of Experience: Principal, 20+ years of experience
