Job Details

Supports Space Systems Company employees at the Santa Cruz in Environment, Safety and Health issues. Develops, implements and improves safety programs to prevent or correct unsafe environmental working conditions, using knowledge of industrial processes, mechanics, chemistry, psychology, and industrial health and safety laws. Examines plans and specifications for new machinery or equipment, facilities, to determine if all safety precautions have been included. Provides/executes an explosive safety program that is compliant to OP 5 and DOD 4145.26M. Tours plant to inspect for fire and safety equipment, machinery, and facilities to identify and correct potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations. Investigates industrial accidents and participates on internal Root Cause Investigations (RCI) to minimize recurrence. Communicates with ESH staff and affected employees the findings of the investigations and analyses, as well as provides recommended solutions based on an understanding of the affected organization and processes. Develops programs to oversee and ensure technical excellence, including technical aspects of the ESH Management System (including risk assessments, program assessments, and compliance reviews)

Basic Qualifications
-Demonstrated working knowledge and application of current California Occupational Safety and Health (OSHA) and environmental (EPA) requirements, regulations and applicable policies, particularly in [hazardous waste management, radiation safety, ergonomics, ordnance life cycle management, confined space entry and emergency response.]

-Demonstrated experience with and implementation of explosive safety documents (OP5 and DOD 4145.26M)

- Knowledge or experience in ESH subject areas, particularly industrial safety, including elevated work, confined space entry, construction safety, Lockout/Tag out, lifting and handling, scaffold safety, machine guarding, fall protection, cranes and other industrial safety programs as well as emergency response

- This position is located at a facility that requires special access therefore candidate must have the ability to obtain a Secret clearance

-Ability to develop, implement and monitor safety and health programs to ensure compliance with requirements as well as incorporate continuous improvement principles.

-Strong oral and written communication skills and strong negotiations and influence skills.

-Demonstrated ability to effectively work on teams and provide successful customer service.

-Willingness to work independently at a remote site but remain an integral part of the Space Systems Company Bay Area Environment, Safety and Health team

Desired skills
-Safety and industrial hygiene certification (CIH, CSP) and demonstrated application of environmental related requirements and environmental science principles (e.g., chemical engineering).

-Knowledge and application of continuous improvement/lean /six sigma processes (e.g.., LM21 certification).

- Professional ESH experience in ordnance manufacturing or industrial environment

-Current security clearance minimum (Secret).

- Ordnance/laser/radiation experience

- Strengths in customer service and cooperative teaming, and demonstrated capability in managing multiple projects/tasks, effectively prioritizing tasks and work load, and ensuring timely closure of assignments

-Ability to manage multiple projects/tasks.

-Ability to effectively manage contractors, including budget accountability

- Aerospace or Defense industry experience is a plus
