Areté Associates, an employee-owned company, is a growing research and development firm recognized for contributing to national security objectives by supplying innovative solutions to challenging technical problems faced by the United States. Our office's in Tucson, AZ and Longmont, CO have an immediate opening for a Engineer 1, Electrical This is a exempt non-supervisory full-time position.

 Researches, designs, develops, and tests a variety of electronic equipment and systems, including radar and radiation detection equipment, power electronics; communications equipment and systems; circuitry components and integrated circuits; analog and digital computers, processors, field-programmable gate arrays (FPGA) and associated firmware; and control and test equipment.

 Key Responsibilities

  • Work with a team of skilled professionals to design, test, and produce electro-optic systems

  • Develop detailed designs of circuit card and system electronics including schematics, component selection, and layout requirements

  • Perform layout or assist with layout of circuit cards

  • Work with vendors to fabricate and assemble circuit cards and other electronic assemblies

  • Hands on testing, troubleshooting, and system integration of circuit cards and electronic systems

  • Design, develop, implement, test, and validate equipment and methods to support production of electro-optic systems

  • Support new and existing technical and cost proposals

  • Support system design and implementation from initial concept through production

 Supervisory Responsibilities



  • BS/BA in Computer/Electronics Engineering.

  • Minimum 2 years of experience preferred, and significant relevant experience may substitute for educational requirement

  • Knowledge of at least one circuit-card design software package, and experience in circuit card design and implementation.Altium Designer preferred

  • Good command of electronic circuit theory including use of opamps, regulators, transistors, and various passive components

  • Experience using FPGAs and microprocessors is highly desired including both developing code and electrical design.

  • Software programming skills in Labview, Matlab, Python, or C/C++ etc.

  • Ability to produce professional documentation and thoroughly document designs and testing results

  • Ability to obtain TS security clearance.  Current security clearance preferred

 Overall Work Environment

Standard Office Environment. Standard laboratory environment utilizing lasers and optical equipment.  Occasional outdoor field testing may be required.

Physical Demands

• Support of outdoor field tests.

• Occasional lifting of hardware will be required

• Occasional travel required

• Optical Systems, Sensors, Spectrometers, Lidar systems

• Oscilloscopes, timing systems, DAQs, Cameras
