Title: Embedded Firmware Engineer – ELSYS - 1600

Description: The candidate will provide firmware/software engineering for ongoing sponsored programs where GTRI is accomplishing modernization efforts for the US Air Force in the area of Electronic Warfare (EW).  The successful applicant must have knowledge of embedded firmware theory and experience in its application.  Responsibilities will include firmware/FPGA engineering in VHDL (Verilog acceptable).

Basic Responsibilities 

  • Firmware/Software Engineering

Core competencies for this position:  

  • Xilinx FPGA products and development environments
  • Design experience with standard interfaces and protocols (e.g., SPI, Flash, and SDRAM)
  • Able to examine, understand, and modify existing VHDL code in order to adapt functioning code to new requirements with minimal perturbation
  • Works well individually or in a group setting
  • Ability to effectively work under pressure and time constraints
  • Ability to self-motivate and derive specific requirements from general tasking descriptions 
  • Ability to assimilate and apply new job-related information in a timely manner

Job Requirements:

Research Scientist I

  • A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering and who will be performing on a professional level.

Research Scientist II

  • A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer  Engineering and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer  Engineering

Other Requirements:

  • US Citizenship
  • DoD Secret clearance is required or ability to obtain a clearance within six months after your employment with Georgia Tech Research Institute begins is required

Preferred Skills/Qualifications:

  • Existing security clearance
  • >5 year of relevant co-op and/or intern experience during undergraduate
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Completion of personal projects in a related field
  • Knowledge and experience in EW
  • Knowledge and experience in RF Receivers
