Lockheed Martin Space System Company's Optical Payload Center of Excellence (OPCoE) is seeking a thought leader who is highly experienced in the fields of visible and Infra-red Focal Planes and digital signal processing for space flight optical payloads. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of focal plane technologies, a strong understanding of focal plane manufacturers, their design capability and products, and a strong understanding of where the focal plane industry is headed for space applications. They will utilize this background to shape the future by leading a collaborative consortium of scientists, technologists and engineers to identify and develop evolutionary and revolutionary approaches to incorporating these elements into the integrated signal chain for passive and active Electro-Optical (EO) space flight payloads.
Primary Responsibilities:
* Advance the development and rate of execution of our Optical Payload signal chain strategy to include:
* Take a leadership position in promoting an innovative environment consisting of a cross-functional team of scientists, technologists and engineers defining the signal chain architectures which will grow Lockheed Martin's leadership in space flight optical payloads
* Provide organizational drive focused on leveraging business synergy to achieve a lower product cost structure and maximize efficiency
* Technical, schedule and cost project management of critical EO products through the entire lifecycle from concept development to delivery.
* Leverage the digital tapestry, phenomenology, and image data analytics from conceptual design through production
* Work collaboratively with the Line of Business (LOB)/Program Executives, Advanced Technology Center (ATC) , and OPCoE leadership to:
* Identify and propagate design technology and products in support of the Long Range Plan
* Grow the technical domain expertise of the entire team, drive process and tool development and deployment,
* Resolve critical technical issues, support new business initiatives,
* Ensure standard technical processes are in use on product development programs,
* Support IRAD investment strategy and strategic development of EO Payloads by leading the strategy development for the signal chain elements
* Support proposals as required, Red Teams and independent non-advocate reviews
* Collaborate closely with each LMSSC Line of Business (LOB). Work in close partnership with the ATC to identify candidate technologies supporting future (beyond LRP) needs/opportunities, and work with production, Business Development and the LOB's to manage the development of these products.
* Maintain technical integrity of the LOB/Program design baselines, incorporation of best practices, and optimum technical design.
* Actively utilize specific knowledge and expertise in the science of optical remote sensing and in the development of payload related technologies and components, subsystems, and systems for both flight and non-flight applications.
* Identify and integrate Optical Payload technical concepts, mission assessments, space and ground solutions into a cohesive and competitive approach for SSC.
* Drive new technology selection and first article development, related to the signal chain of EO Payloads, subsystems and components.
* Support technology and mission analysis investment assessments and ensuring integration into technology roadmaps. Enable common usage of qualified product designs across multiple applications in SSC, thereby strengthening designs and facilitating knowledge sharing of successful past work performed with the LOBs, suppliers and other LM companies
* Position may require frequent travel

Basic Qualifications
* Proven capability operate in a dynamic environment where system, subsystem, and component requirements and designs must be invented
* Must possess a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical degree
* Minimum 20 years of technical and leadership experience in the development of Optical Remote Sensing payloads, focal planes, or digital processors
* Demonstrated Experience in defining and developing product maturation plans and approaches from technology R&D levels through qualified space flight products
* Proposal writing experience (component thru the payload level) with customer knowledge and interface
* Experience leading technical, schedule and cost elements for a program or product
* Excellent communications skills both verbal and written with the proven ability to communicate to all levels internally and externally.
* Demonstrated ability to drive closure and resolve technical issues/challenges
* Demonstrated ability to develop technical talent to sustain technical expertise within the organization
* Must have the ability to obtain SCI and Top Secret clearance levels
* Must possess willingness to travel often

Desired skills
* Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or Computer Science
* Experience in EO payload and component production techniques is preferred
* Business development experience is desired
* Proven experience as a conceptual thinker with the ability to translate into action and results
* Working knowledge and established relationships across SSC LOBs and ATC
* Active SCI security clearance
