Harris Group is seeking an Electrical & Instrumentation Engineer to join our growing team in the San Francisco Bay Area. The selected candidate will work principally in the Life Sciences sector but can also expect project opportunities across all of Harris Group's businesses. Electrical & Instrumentation Engineer

An Electrical & Instrumentation Engineer performs assignments for a broad scope of projects which require the application of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria in carrying out a sequence of related design engineering tasks. The Electrical & Instrumentation Engineer develops detailed design documents for new assignments which may involve some unusual or difficult problems requiring specific job or industry knowledge. This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities


The preferred candidate is a California licensed Professional Electrical Engineer with five to ten years of experience in the design and documentation of instrumentation, control systems, power systems, and lighting control systems for manufacturing and industrial facilities

Essential Job Functions


* Preparation of one-line diagrams, schematics, layouts and installation detail drawings

* Preparation of equipment and construction specification documents

* Ability to read and develop piping & instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs)

* Ability to specify flow, pressure, and temperature instruments

* Develop drawings and specifications for construction including network communication block diagrams, control panel details, wiring termination diagrams, and instrument installation details

* Model and conduct power systems analysis (short circuit, load flow, protective relay coordination and arc flash analysis)

* Develop lighting layouts and lighting control system designs

* Review and evaluate equipment vendor information and determine suitability for specific project applications

* Specify instruments, control devices, control panels and components

* Participate in field investigations and provide construction support

* Respond to field information requests

Knowledge & Skills


* Excellent written and verbal communication skills

* Understanding of Ethernet based networks

* Capable in Easy Power or SKM power system modeling, AGi32 or Visual lighting software, and AutoCAD

* PLC programming and HMI configuration

* Understanding of the requirements of Title 24

* Ability to be an individual contributor and work effectively in teams

Educational & Work Experience


* Minimum of 5 years of electrical design experience

* B.S. in Electrical Engineering with a power emphasis

* California PE license

Candidates must be able and willing to travel to off-site locations and/or accept client site assignments when required

Work is performed mostly in office settings. Some outdoor work is required in the inspection of various land use developments, construction sites or public works facilities. Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate drafting instruments, computers and various pieces of office equipment

The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; and smell

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus
