Department Summary

The Electrical Instructor is responsible for delivering Generation Electrical Skills instruction to Consumers Energy generation employees.  The individual in this position will actively participate in the learning community to increase consistency in Consumers Energy training practices and increase the effectiveness of the learning function. The Generation Electrical Skills Instructor will proactively manage internal resources and creatively plan and execute training events within Consumers Energy that reflect and balance the priorities and resources of the company. 

 

  • Position will be located at Bay City Service Center Training Center

 

  • Travel within Michigan is anticipated up to 30% of the time. 

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Conduct all training in accordance with all applicable codes and standards. 
  • Deliver training in multiple formats including: Classroom delivery, technology assisted, and as a business support resource. 
  • Coordinate with team and supervisor to schedule and instruct courses in accordance with the needs of the business. 
  • Manage the effectiveness and efficiency of the delivery and evaluation strategy around instruction.
  • Ensure support of Consumers Energy’s learning management system and other tracking and delivery tools.
  • Proactively identify learning opportunities in support of business objectives and performance goals.
  • Generate relevant options for addressing problems/opportunities and achieving desired outcomes. Challenge paradigms and look for innovative alternatives.
  • Concisely and regularly communicate learning and performance results to key stakeholders; solicit and act on feedback from Consumers Energy stakeholders.
  • Complete and submit monthly report to manager, detailing monthly progress toward scorecard items and other relevant activities.
  • Periodically observe or work alongside front line staff to ensure subject matter expertise is maintained.
  • Effectively evaluate the programs being delivered, working in collaboration with the instructional design team on improvements.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment demonstrating all safety related policies and procedures.
  • Ability to train courses in soft skills and other non-technical areas to employees throughout the company.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in applicable field with a minimum of 48 scientifc or technical credit hours
  • 5+ years of applicable field exprience
  • Journeyman Electrician State of Michigan license through the Department of Labor

  • National Electrical Code, Master Electrical License required
  • Candidate must have a strong background in Industrial Electronics, Electrical installation, Electrical construction, process control instrumentation, protective relay technology, heating ventilating and air conditioning technology, National Electrical Code, and electrical generating power plant systems
  • Process Control Instrumentation
  • 5 – 10 years of industrial electronics experience
  • Experience in an instructor role with strong facilitation and classroom management skills
  • CPLP Certification
  • Master Electricians License
  • Substation Construction Experience
  • Protective Relaying Instrument Technology Experience
  • Process Control Instrumentation Knowledge
  • HVAC Theory and Principles Knowledge
  • Electrical Generating Power Plant Systems Knowledge
  • Electrical System protective relaying technology
  • Ability to effectively interact with individuals at all levels of the organization
  • Demonstrated application of instructional design concepts and application
  • Knowledge of Web based management resources such as SharePoint and Learning Management Systems
  • Experience with SAP


Essential Functions

Delivers training programs in classrooms, via electronic learning and/or independent study.   Maintain training budgets and coordinates inter-departmental input.  Defines objectives; designs, or assists in designing course material; delivers training; facilitates program evaluations and course material and training aids.  Presents development and/or training concepts to management for review and approval.  Provides information, resources, materials and equipment to departments in support of their training and employee development programs, as available; prepare reports and correspondence; participate in meetings; compile data.  Maintain current knowledge of workplace diversity issues, EEO, sexual harassment, and ADA regulations, laws, and policies.  Uses a variety of computer programs in presenting training materials.  Maintains regular, predictable and punctual attendance during regularly scheduled work hours at assigned worksite.  Meet travel requirements of the position.  Perform the physical requirements of the position; work within the established working conditions of the position.  Work a flexible schedule, which may include evenings, weekends, holidays and overtime.

 

Hours and Travel

This position requires the individual work 40 hours per week with 90% of time spent in the office or specific field locations.
