Lake Superior Consulting, LLC, a Shawcor Company, headquartered in Duluth, MN, is a team consisting of Engineers, Technicians and Support Specialists committed to providing a premier level of service to our customers in the pipeline industry. We provide many services to the pipeline industry, including but not limited to: Engineering Design and Project Management, Integrity Management, Welding Inspection, Coating Inspection, Survey, Quality Control, Inline Inspection, and Cathodic Protection. 

LAKE SUPERIOR CONSULTING is currently growing at a fast pace and as part of that growth, we are seeking to fill a key leadership position as an Electrical Engineering Manager at our home office in Duluth, MN.

The successful candidate will need to be proficient in several aspects of the industry, be able to lead moderate to large sized projects and make decisions and recommendations on technical or complex issues quickly and accurately. Responsible for engineering and detailed design of energy related (oil and gas, utilities, manufacturing) projects from inception through to delivery. Projects will be multi-disciplined covering civil, mechanical, and electrical scopes, with a strong focus on the power, controls and communications area of the projects. This position will be responsible for the leadership and mentoring of more junior engineers. This position will result in client facing and project management responsibilities, in addition to engineering duties.


  • Leads, manages, and develops a group of engineers and designers; act as a mentor.
  • Regularly interact with clients, vendors, and contractors.
  • Assist with business development, particularly focused in the electrical engineering realm, but also with multi-disciplinary groups as experience grows within LSC.
  • Performs complex engineering tasks and particularly important engineering work efficiently and accurately.
  • Extracts engineering information from CAD drawings.
  • Prepares engineering computations, material quantity takeoffs, estimates, surveys, and designs.
  • Completes a variety of assignments such as drawings, specifications, and other materials suitable for procurement and construction purposes.  
  • Frequently interfaces with other Engineering disciplines as well as other departments.
  • Prepares detailed requisitions for equipment and materials.
  • Reviews supplier drawing submittals and performs technical bid analyses.
  • Prepares and issues specifications, data sheets, and other construction documents.
  • Provides technical guidance to CAD Designer/Drafters, Designers, and lower-level Engineers working on the same project.
  • May be required to provide the seal and signature of the professional engineer, as appropriate, ensuring compliance with all applicable codes, regulations, and ordinances.
  • May act in an advisory capacity to senior management personnel on engineering related matters


Position Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 8 plus years experience in the energy or process related industry.
  • Oil and gas industry desired.
  • Registered PE highly preferred at time of hire. PE registration will be a requirement of the position after hire.
  • Project management/project team leadership experience preferred.
  • Consulting Engineering business experience desired.
  • Experience in fluids or gasses-flow analysis, rotating machinery and vibration, or process design/instrumentation.
  • Ability to act as a leader and team player with good communication skills.
  • Judgment and initiative in interpreting policy in the planning and implementation of major work assignments. 
  • Preferred knowledge of Integrity Management in liquids or gas pipelines, repair procedures in operating pipelines, or pipeline operations.
